I guess it has been out for a few months. It is the 50AE necked down to 44 so almost looks like they just resurrected the 440 Corbon. The ballistics are not as hot as the 440 though (240 @ 1600fts vs 240 @ 1800fts). A hotly loaded 44 mag is probably pretty close, so this is a bit of a head scratcher. The 210gr load @1750fps differentiates it a little more.

Always kind of liked these high velocity bottlenecked magnum rounds (like the 357AMP, 7.5Brno, 357 Grizzly, 450 Wildey) but they always end up being novelties. Even finding reloading components is next to impossible. I almost bought a 357 Grizzly but would have needed to form my own brass. Maybe a retirement project.

Super cool stuff. I like playing with Wildcat loads with my T/C contender. Those would not be hard to make yourself. To neck down to 44 from a 50 AE case could be done in one stroke with a press. You'd have to get Lee or someone else to make you custom dies which would run you $100 each and given the price of 50AE brass I'd also have Lee make me up a collet neck sizer so that brass would last you quite a few reloadings. So $200 in dies to roll your own ammo...

I have to ask, what for? What's the benefit?

For a DE I'd just get a 44 Mag and reload some nice hot loads. I don't think the added volume of the 50AE case will really help you much ballistically with a pistol length barrel.

Interesting. Not being a reloader, I just assumed it would be a challenge. Maybe I need to get a little more adventurous.

In terms of what’s the point, maybe some extra reach and or a flat trajectory? It would be more interested in actually trying one of these higher velocity options if I could shoot past 50m at my current range. I need to find a range with a 100m pistol gong.

I had a 10” 440 Corbon barrel on my DE a few years back. Brass was only good for two maybe three reloads due to hard extraction. Probably should have kept it for novelty sake.
