New DND Timberwolf

in the end it really comes down to which gun fits you. I can't stand the AI style stock, but others love it. There are things I don't like about my TRG22, but I'll be buying another one anyhow.

Like I said before, it comes down to personal choice, we are not comparing Ladas and Porches here....they are all first class guns.

As a matter of fact, I have not nor would ever buy a Ford or GM. It does not really matter if they have huge contracts, they did the last time they almost went out of business and filed for bankrupcy protection. That being said, that does not take away form the quality of thier product, absolutly fantastic, but the TRG is every bit as good and it is cheaper, and no I do not own a TRG I just think it is a far better deal.

Bottom line is, you are correct, it comes down to which feels best for you, I am of the same opinion as Slavex, I hate the feel of the AI stock, but that is only my personal opinion, all are of superior quality and only you know which one you will like.

A5 stock

Get the fixed stock model! You aren't going to be doing any para drops, so you don't need a folding stock. The fixed stock model looks better and chances are it is more stable as well.

I decided to go with the A5 stock and a S&B PM II 3-12X50mm Illumenated P4L reticle

I was lucky enough to see the techs at Colt Canada firing one of these on their test range.

Its just a little indoor range. So I can only say a couple things really.

Nice weight, not nearly as loud as I thought it would be and it kills chronies dead. Hehe.. The guy was shooting some groups and couldnt figure out the one flier until he noticed his damaged chronograph on the way back to the firing point.

I had the pleasure of shooting a custom 338 Lapua Ackley Improved this weekend.

The platform was as follows:
- A5 stock
- Nesika Bay action
- Rock Creek 5R 30" barrel with break
- HS Precision bottom metal / mag assembly
- Jewell Trigger
- Nightforce 8-32 x 56 NXS scope

It was hammering 300gr SMK's at 3000+ fps and was just devastating. I can't say enough about the accuracy of this rifle, it was scary at a mile, just a tack driver.

All I can say is WOW, I don't have much experience with the 338 Lapua but its Ackley-ised cousin is SCARY!!

That really was a very nice rifle and shot great. But the part that impressed me the most was the brake design. yes, off topic but relevant to those who plan on owning any of these boomers.

I have shot enough heavy weight cannons to know that mass isn't the only answer to not making your dentist very happy (at least without using a crane to lift onto the bench). You need a good brake.

I have seen rear venting brakes but never shot them. Now shooting a BMG and 338LAI with this style of brake, I am truly impressed. You bet that the concussion all around is 'noticeable' but that is not the point. From the shooters perspective, there is little more disturbance then with a conventional brake but the effect on shoulder is noticeable.

I never would have guessed that I could spot my own shots with high mag scopes shooting these brutes. For a frame of reference, sporter 308's buck you off enough so you can't spot.

Just stay directly behind the shooter and enjoy the show.

I believe the Timberwolf has this style of brake, and its about the same weight so it should be similar to shoot.

Those of you on this thread who've purchase 338 Lapua's or the Timerwolf in same caliber should have some great fun at great distances.

The more people who get involved in this style of shooting (long range) the better.

Those of you considering this type of rifle need to get out and see what they can do. If you are thinking about one and have never seen one reach out and touch something, its impressive.

DND Timberwolf

If the PGW Timberwolf has been given the designation C-14, does anyone know the designation given to the AR-10T also being used now?

Before questions are asked, About that Pic.

He's no sniper,
He's Infantry,
He's in my unit as a Cpl,
He was attached with the battle group 2 RCR on his tour.

Who cares if he is a sniper or not. I don't think it was implied either. Usually in the Cdn Military, snipers are infantryman. Are you a part time soldier or a full time soldier, does it matter.

It has not been given a designation as it is not a standard issue weapon in our inventory. It is in use, but was a special operational purchase for Afghanistan and not many exist in the CF outside of the Sand Box....

Two are tan folders, one is a green CF spec.

PGWSteve, I've seen and held "catworks" .338 rifle you built ... what do the TAN folders look like ... post some pics here????
