Last year i gave to my son my Rossi Hand rifle 44 mag with a full stock as a birthday present, that left me with no short lever action 44 mag for my dogging ( love to push the deers toward friends and family while hunting), so i got my chance when this little Trapper 33 inch and 5.5 pounds rifle with a saddle ring, the oversize loop so gloves can be used, with those amazing Skinner sights, easy for aging eyes with this red fiber optic front post... Did pick one up at Wantstalls... Nice little piece with a very smooth action and good trigger.... JP.http://i1081.photobucket.com/albums/j349/caramel57/SAM_3493_zps6178939c.jpg[/IMG][/IMG]

I just bought a Chiappa .44 mag rifle, round barrel, case hardened finish on the action. Very smooth action. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. It was my Christmas present to myself for the year 2050. I am a bit ahead of myself...

I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I think the peep sight would have been better mounted farther to the rear, rather than on the barrel. A peep works by looking through it, focussing on the front sight, without conciously trying to look at the peep. The closer to your eye the better, and if you have it too far forward, you have to work at lining up the bead in the peep, then it's not any easier or faster than regular open sights. A tang sight, or having the peep mounted to the bolt, like the old model 71 winchesters, or a Williams peep mounted to the receiver would have been a better choice.

Those are my first Skinner sights, i guess after some shooting i will figured out if i like them or class them in the ordinary ones, from shouldering the rifle and looking tru the window, they look of very fast aquisition and are easy with both eyes opened... JP.

But...But ...Its not a Henry JP! ;)

I needed a light and short 44 mag, i agree Henry are top but at 8.5 pounds to heavy for dogging but it is true they are nicers, but really can you have to many 44 mag, it would be like saying you can have to many 308... JP.

I did not want a Rossi, the Buckhorn sight is very hard to shoot, no Marlin as they really are in the poor house, the Winny was left but like 40% more expensive for the same quality of the Chiappa, and i wanted a Trapper lenght one (16 inchs) at 5.5 pounds... JP.

Haven't heard great things about the Chiappa internals. They look pretty on the outside, but the inside is junk. I'll stick with my Marlin and Rossi.

That is my first one, i will trial and error it, did cycle 50 live rounds tru it and not a hiccup and very smooth feeding and positive ejection but after 50 or 60 rounds at the range, i will have a better assesement, i could live with a Rossi but the new Marlin stuff is defenitively a no go, hit or miss at is best( more miss than hit), would not get caught with one...
