I just recently completed my last project (?) for 2008.

I’ve been hunting with a sporter 303 Brit but I wanted something in 308. So I was in the gun shop a few months ago and spotted this:

I’ve never seen one before but apparently they made Lee Enfields in 308.

So I decided to pick it up and make it into a sweet :dancingbanana: deer rifle.

It took me about 6 weeks of work but I finally got it finished and here is how she looks…

Now mind you I had a few problems, first off it was a 42 Longbranch…

And the damn thing had a LB serial number, but also some other serial number on the bolt, barrel and receiver…?

It is the weirdest thing….anyhow, the registry certificate had the non LB number so I stuck with that. I definitely would not want to argue with anyone at the CFC as they know soooo much more than me J

I almost thought about keeping it pristine but some clown had cut off the bayonet lugs and put 7.62 on there?!?

So at least the barrel was parkerized, so I parked the rest of it after I had the gunsmith cut the barrel off and drill and tap the receiver for a scope.

Now the funny thing was, I think the guy that owned this thing was Loyd Brown or Charles Adams or something like that ‘cause there were LB’s and CA’s all over the damn thing…?!

Another thing was that some fool put this aluminum foil under the trigger guard on the forestock. It took me an hour to scrap that out…

And I hear these peep sights suck so I threw this one in the trash and can’t wait to put that Fitco scope to the test!

Damn I put too much bait on my hook again....:D:D

It shoots better than I do....:p

I'll be trying out some reloads next weekend. I gave 'er a go with some 7.62 surplus today. I was very impressed. :)

That's some mighty fine looking original wood on that rifle..What do you plan on doing with the original stock?

Well, I though I was gonna have to come out there and kill you myself, thank God I caught on. What is the second 4 didget Serial # on your rifle? Mine is 1647 or something like that. Did it come with a .303 mag or a .308 mag?

By pic 2 I was ready to kill... Obvious by pic 3 that it was a joke.

Not funny! :slap: This would have been great for April Fools!

A beautiful find my friend! :D

Saw that one on the rack, but some bubba had already bought it. Going to do it up to match the sported No. 5?
M39a2 - to be correct, it shouldn't have a 7.62 magazine. These were made up as target rifles for single shot prone slowfire use. Not unusual though to find 7.62 magazines in them, added after the rifles were retired from competition.

Personally, I'd have bought one of the new Lee Enfields in .308 from Marstar. You did a great job on the rifle, but the .308 Long Branch aren't too thick on the ground here, and it seems a shame to take a rifle in full military furniture and re-work it.

Inset a quarter into the buttstock, etch your SIN number into the receiver and paint it in camo and then you'd have something.

Make sure you check your headspace before every shot. ;)
