I picked up a 42 mk4 #1 and would like to mount a scope but do not want to drill any holes and was looking for opinions on a good product. I dont want to do anything permanent. As well as some thoughts on some of the sport conversion that are out there. Thanks

I mounted an ATI scope mount.

No modifications required, and cheap at $60 ish.

This picture illustrates the deficiency of this design for actual use on this rifle - the scope is too far rearwards and too high for "good" eye relief and cheek weld. If you look at some of the other designs, you'll notice a bevel at the rear edge.

I intend to add a bevel with a grinder.

Just FYI. Haven't had it to a range to report any other issues.

PS I guess I should add, if you had a scope with a very small glass it might not be so bad -- but sort of defeats the purpose of mounting a scope, doesn't it?

Thank you for the input. I made a few calls about the ati mount and no one out here has one and was told it could be months before anyone gets one in. So I will have to check out where to get the S & K mount at

I went with the ATI on my #4 sporter. It does raise your sight line higher, and an add on cheek rest is helpful. Use locktite on the set screws OR it will work lose !!. As per another Enfield forum advised, I added two small washers between the mount and the inside of each rear sight wing. If not in place I could tighten down the two rear bolts enough to bend the wings, and cause slight binding on the bolt travel. No such issuse with the washers in place. Mount has worked very well for me.

I picked up a 42 No4MkI Lee Enfield and would like to mount a scope but do not want to drill any holes and was looking for opinions on a good product. I dont want to do anything permanent. As well as some thoughts on some of the sport conversion that are out there. Thanks

On CGN, member Gairlochian makes a no gunsmithing mount. You still need to put bases on it.

Or buy an S&K mount for $64.95 (I think) and they will ship to us last time I checked.

The ATI items...have mixed reviews.

BTW, all of the mounts out there do put the scope up kind of high for a cheekweld. Best bet is a sniper style cheekrest or get a buttstock off of a nice sporter Enfield, with a Monte Carlo shape.

Best mounts out there are the 2 from England- Armalon and Fulton. They extend forward even out over the receiver ring and allow use of a big, long scope with proper eye relief. Big $ though.

The B Square mount also extends out further than average and gets the scope further forward. For the $ they are a great item. A member on here (Timberlord) claims they hold zero really well too over time.

I have been using the S&K for a number of years with no problems.

Yes, it puts the scope up a bit high, but not like those European mounts where you need a stepladder just to get up to it.

Solid, too.

I use the Cad-Technik mount on a couple of my No.4 s and I think it puts the scope higher than any of the others mentioned. A Beartooth comb-raising kit is one good answer (neoprene sleeve for the buttstock with a selection of foam pads of various thicknesses to go under it to combine for the right height,) and on the other I have reproduction No.4T cheekpiece which is better but more expensive and harder to find.

Here's a good solution for a riser.

Make your own :) I know, outside my skillset as well.

I agree with Cantom's points. I bought my ATI mount off the wall of a local gunshop and the owner offered a free bore-sighting as well which was an irresistible deal. If I could have found an S+K or Bsquare I would have used those instead.
