1955 Faz In Wrap

I just purchased a #4 Mk2 still in it's wrap, with a bayonet and scabbard. The receiver part is open (in Canada we hafta look at the numbers. Can anyone tell me about this little jem?

The exact numbers are:

No4 MK2 (F)
12/54 PF337###

Still in wrap and full of grease. Has an old label taped to wrap:

Rifle No.4 Mk2
C.R. 18 GA
(Normal butt)
FAZ
New
stamped MAR 1955

Noooo...not yet...still wanna fondle the wrap.

Just keep on fondling it in the wrap, there are thousands of MkIIs out there in excellent condition in the $400+ range. They look very nice and it doesn't deduct from their value to shoot them.

All you get from opening that wrap, is a short lasting infusion of Dopamine to your brain. It's over very quickly.

Just remember, in another 5-10 years, that "wrapped rifle" will double in price. Unwrapped it might go up 20%.

Mind you, I shouldn't be counselling you in this manner, every one of the remaining MkII rifles that see daylight, makes mine more valuable.

As Jean Plamondon stated on another thread, there may be only a couple of hundred wrapped rifles left in North America. Most of them came to North America, some went to Europe and Australia/NZ.

Did you get the matching bayo/scabbard with it???

Yup!

Matching bayo and scabbard.

Tuck it nicely away in a warm corner of the safe, leave the wrapped bayo/scabbard alone where they won't tempt you and quit handling the wrap. It will tear or crumble eventually.

The same goes for any other collectibles you own. If you handle them improperly, the oils/sweat/grit on your hands will damage the finish and devalue them.

I wear those disposable plastic gloves when I'm handling pristine collector's pieces.

The No4 MkII you came across, I don't know if you got it for a decent price or paid fair market price for it.

If you paid fair market price for it, you will throw away about half what you paid for it, as soon as the wrap is removed.

A few years ago, a fellow in the Kamloops gun show, had three of them on his rifle rack.

They were priced, according to the condition of the wrap. The 2 unmolested wrapped rifles were priced $300 higher than the one taken out of the wrap and replaced back in it.

The unmolested rifles both sold, before the show openeded. The rewrapped rifle, went home with the vendor.

I am very interested in purchasing a Mk2. Does anyone know where a good place to find one of these rifles? wrapped or unwrapped? Preferably wrapped. I'm interested in purchasing one to add to my collection but more importantly to fire handloads.
