New fall wild turkey hunt a "go"

Have any details been released on what WMU's and when the hunt will take place...like actual dates not just "a fall hunt"?

Been checking the MNR and OFAH sites and neither have any specifics on this. I'd agree with the majority here, this does not appear to have been well thought out at all.

Oct.14 until Oct.26, this year. Next year will have different dates, in the same two weeks.

Oh I can't wait, I get to kick out more turkey hunters just like the spring hunt.

I think I might lose it if a trespassing turkey hunter interferes with my bow hunting for deer. :runaway:

Turkey hunting is unreal for tresspassers it's the only time I really have problems.

One of the reasons cited for the mandatory course is that turkey hunting is one of the more dangerous forms of the sport. Putting camo'd turkey hunters into the bush while other hunters are out seems like a plan not well thought through.

My concern is grouse hunting. If I'm chasing grouse with a dog probably the last thing I need is some well hidden turkey hunter in the same area. I usually wear blaze orange whether it's required or not but I'll be damn sure to have mine on if I'm out during the fall turkey hunt.

X2 This is not a very good time for a Turkey hunt. They should have made it late summer just before any Deer season.

there will probably be very few actually out pursuing turkeys ....I think a lot of people will either be moose hunting or deer hunting at this time and the people deer hunting may take a turkey if they so wish. Also once the birds get pressured in one bush lot they will move....

I would be one in that camp. I will however take one if wanders under one of my deer stands during archery deer season.

I'll be gone for moose, no wild turkeys where I'm goin', but maybe some WILD TURKEY. :D

I have turkeys and deer on my property.. I look forward to hunting both in the fall.

Suck it up naysayers... Everyone that I have run across that was against a fall turkey hunt is a deer hunter that doesn't hunt turkeys. People don't want to share their ground. If you ask me, the more hunters we have the better, regardless of what we're hunting. The only real problem I see is people hunting crown land... one more problem there. Itchy citi-diot turkey hunters with deer hunters is a bad mix... But maye it'll actually make more guys go out and speak to landowners for permission. It might make for some more informed non-hunters.

A fall hunt is about meat in the freezer as far as I'm concerned, and I look forward to taking some hens for the holidays.

I applaud the decision. It has more advantages than non.

So I see 45 is stated as having an open season this year. Does anyone here have proof of an actual opening day?

I thought everything was still tentative on it and I can't even find an opening day on the gov't sites.

We've still got about 3 feet of snow here in 45.

"Not to worry MNR plans to monitor turkey harvest, population numbers and fall season would be cut if spring harvest is reduced. We hunters only need to do our part and report all turkey harvested spring and fall," taken from April issue OOD article Taking Stock. Ya, right the same people that told me when the moose population increases so will the tags. Then you have the turkey experts arguing that the fall season is working in the US. The states they use as an example Missouri, Virginia do not get any amount of snow, are about a tenth in size of Ontario and they have more turkeys in one state than all of Ontario. I hope the rest of you turkey hunters get that warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that the MNR are going to watch this fall hunt, but I feel it is like trying to pi$$ in the wind? Money Talks!

It's funny how we all PAY to do the work of the MNR in maintaining healthy wildlife populations. They want the turkey numbers reduced....give us a free tag with the archery tags for deer.
