Hey everyone,

New to the sport. I currently own a Remington 597 VTR .22LR semi and I was taking a look at the guys shooting the bolt actions at the range and tried it out. Ended up enjoying it so I figured let me take a look at what's out there in terms of a nice bolt action .22LR rifle. I'm currently looking at a Savage Mark 2 BTVS for $530 CAD but is there anything else better or anything else you guys can recommend other than the Mark 2? And/or what are your experiences with the Mark 2?

Thanks!

That seems expensive for one of those, but they are awesome. If you can get one for 3-400$, do it.

CZ makes nice ones in that $500+ range too.

I have a savage mark ii tr and love it, but I need to get a cz to see what the fuss is all about. The savage comes highly recommended from many shooters but I think the cz has a bigger following and I'm sure there's a good reason why.

I have both a savage mark ii tr and a cz452 varmint. Both cost within $10.Neither shoots better than the other. I prefer the Boyds PV stock, longer bolt handle, and accutrigger on the savage. Some prefer wood and bluing. I find the bolt stiff on the cz. I also find the longer barrel on the tr to be less ammo picky. Jury is still out on the cz, I love my savage tr, all it needs is the thicker bottom metal $22.
