Just got a fn49 from the collectors show last Friday stock is rough but the barrel is like new
I don't know much about the fn iv looked at The sticky but anyone shoot these on a Regular basis
And where can I get some 8 mm

funny thing is, compared to the one i picked up a while ago yours in pretty good shape.

as for 8mm, you can get some yugo stuff from a few dealers, lever arms in Vancouver is one. I think another dealer was selling it as well. Its corrosive, berden primed but as far as 8mm goes dirt cheap.

I ended up reloading for mine in the end. Tradex has brass and bullets.

I haven't tried reloading is it difficult. I was going to try reloading for my cooey carcano in 6.5ms but never got around to it.

I did it with my Lee single stage press. Take your time, it works great ! Just make sure to mark the brass so you know at a glance it's converted !!!

OP, the FN 49 can have a few issues if it isn't kept clean.

You need to find a mentor to help you with this rifle before doing something foolish.

It is a very robust rifle and has features that were superior to some of its later cousins as well as the Garand. I really like the Garand so I am not belittling it.

This rifle was made to shoot cartridges that are loaded to around 47,000 psi. It will give function problems with the low powered US loaded ammo.

These rifles are also very accurate if the bores are in excellent condition. Recoil is minimal because of the weight.

The rifle is relatively easy to disassemble for cleaning. You should be able to find a video on the internet that will walk you through it visually. The gas system is what takes a bit of care. Especially when using corrosive primed ammo.

The rifle's operation is very similar to the Swede M42. No not exactly the same but he same principle of operation.

The FN 49's gas system is much easier to clean.

so privi is out then eh I was going to buy a bunch from canadaammo but I guess ill look elsewhere.
the only place I seen have military ammo was lever arms but they only do local pick ups
ps m have some Yugo 8x57 but it seems too light from what iv seen it should be 190s but im new to this caliber so ya Ill keep looking

Edit
so I complety forgot about bulleye and they got some s&b ammo is that any good I know its higher then the privi but i don't know if its high enough any thoughts

The FN49 should be able to reliably digest just about any load if you balance the gas system. Ensure your gas cylinder plug is properly installed. There are 2 positions. If the "R" is at the 12'o clock position it will not cycle the action as it is set to launch grenades. The "A" must be visible from the top of the rifle. Remove the stock end cap screw and slide the stock end cap forward off the rifle. That will allow the front of the front top handguard to lift off revealing the gas tube, gas adjusting sleeve (regulator) and piston body. The gas regulator is the tubular piece with holes in it and an indexing finger directly behind the front sight ears. Screwing it clockwise increases the gas pressure, counter clockwise, less pressure. Generally you want the regulator sleeve to cover about 50% of the gas port (the hole in the gas block) to start. Fire one round, if it doesn't eject with some authority, screw in the regulator (clockwise) about 10 clicks and try again. Empties should eject 6-8 feet away. Conversely if it launches the cases more than that distance, open up the gas regulator by unscrewing it. General it will take 10-15 rounds to find the correct balance for your rifle and the ammo you are shooting. Remember to lubricate the breech block carrier. I use Swiss weapons grease, but any good oil or light grease will work. After the rifle is cycling well, ensure it is unloaded and replace upper hand guard. Hope that helps.

Depending on the manufacture, surplus 7.92 x 57 mm ammo is likely Berdan primed(not an issue unless you want to reload) and corrosively primed(also not really an issue. Just flush the whole thing with plain hot tap water and clean normally).
There's a user's manual here. No W's. stevespages.com/page7b.htm

I love cleaning my sks,svt and lil kate so corrosive is fine by me.

I was standing next to a beautiful 7mm Venezuelan FN49 that disassembled itself and broke the stock because of an 'out of battery' primer detonation. It was firing and then the shooter had one half in each hand connected by the sling. Very unfortunate.

The OLD SCHOOL solution is to find a two-piece firing pin. Years ago when I had an Egyptian FN49 I chased down a pin from what was then known as Numrich. No problems until it was stolen in a break in.

To my knowledge PRIVI or any other European manufactured ammo is loaded to 47,000psi and is fine for the FN49. You really need to get more hands on experience rather than trying to pick information up here. Most of these guys are fairly knowledgeable but make the mistake of assuming you know more about firearms than you do. In the case of the FN49, a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous to you and those around you.

Well I did say I knew nothing I mean I didn't even know they existed be for Friday. I picked it up and asked how much and $400 later I'm walking around for an hour or so with a rifle that kept getting heavier and heavier gotta respect the men and woman that carry these things all day.

$400? Damn, you got a pretty slick deal their. You could probably easily flip that on the EE for probably close to twice that. From the picture it look to be in pretty good shape.

like I said the stock is rough but the barrel is like new its what I looked at first (after I clear it) and what is with people freaking out when you look down a barrel its not like the thing is going to go off with the action open.

Does it have a one piece or two piece firing pin? you will need the proper firing pin spring as well or you`ll get slam fire with soft non military primers.
