New for '08 Ruger compact magnum

...So have these made an appearance in Canada yet?
Does anyone know if and when they will make it our way? I am very eager to get my hands on one. WSM performance from a 20" pipe 39.5" overall length with open sights to boot.:) A stainless .338RCM would look great sitting in a boyds pepper laminate stock :D

should be a good cartridge. price is pretty steep over a regular Hawkeye. Too bad the factory ammo is loaded with #### bullets too. It will have a hard time competing in sales with the established 325 WSM but like I said, it will be a good cartridge especially if you handload

I agree. I find it odd they don't at least offer and Interbond loading in RCM instead of just 2 different weight SST, why 2 loads so simliar instead of some useful variety? Most people purchase such a calibre for larger game than deer; granted the SST's are nice so you can also use it on deer, but it still calls for a tougher projectile.
 
I was suprised they didnt offer the 250 grain Interlock. Probably too slow to appeal to the deer hunters who read magazine articles, who have been brainwashed into believing you need 3000 fps to kill a fly
 
Nothign wrong with either cartridge, but tjhe 300WSM already has the Short mag 30 cal lot sewn up, and I dont' see many people running to get the 20" barrel sfor a 300 magnum.

338 has merit, simply becuase the 325WSM isn't a 338.

Handloaders probably won't be able to run those cartridges as fast as the factory ammo.
 
I'd be happy to see .338-06 velocities with handloads. Nice handling, short barrelled, short action .338, able to handle 225/250 gr bullets.:cool:
 
Handloading the RCM's are going to be interesting I can't wait to see a article write up on this. I'm sure the factory is using some special powder to get those high numbers from a 20 inch pipe.
 
That butt plate will hurt. The williams sights won't add to the good looks, wonder why they did that?

There is a bunch of data published on the Hornady website. It is right between the 338-06 and 338 Win Mag

That's funny,

You're right, more choices, (Now that I know the 30.06 is only a short range Cartridge) Its a handier package for those who dont' want to bother with the 24" pipe on the WSM's.

I doubt either be widely available as a factory offering for the majority of hunters anytime soon, mostly dope for some of us Nuttier Gun Nuts who reload :D

Now for the real question: Availabitilty of Brass and price ?
