Can we have a new forum specifically for dumb questions about legal matters related to BP and antiques? This forum is starting to be a lot less about shooting, loading, restoring etc etc and a lot more about what you might get away with. :runaway:
I am not saying there is no room for legal discussion but do we need threads about halloween costume carry of firearms etc.
 
Couldn't agree more . Keep to real legal questions on import export ,transport etc. not one's that push the boundary of the law and common sence.
 
It seems that everyone is itching to figure out a way to carry in public, and get away with it. I'm in agreement with the " not waving them in everybodys face" crowd. And anyway, isn't there some law that says that all "safe" guns have to have blaze orange tips on their barrels? KD
 
Better make the new forum for crazies totally inaccessible to the public! Kinda like 'lock up the crazies and put 'em away before they cause a problem.'
 
Yes David, we absolutely do need threads in this forum about things you think are dumb/foolish/pointless/silly/boring/worthless.

A forum, was a place in the center of a roman town or city where people would go to lecture, or speak, or grieve publicly. If you didn't like what you were hearing, you'd be free to simply walk on. The same applies here.

A forum an entirely different place from a private club, or a clique. It's far less comfortable and comforting, but more interesting, exciting and flavourful.

There are many other "forums" which are more restrictive, almost like private clubs/cliques. They are much tamer, more sedate, and that's probably the reason that none of them have the spectacular popularity and mass market appeal that Canadian Gunnutz has. You could go hang out at one of those David...if you prefer that type of atmostphere?

I hope not though, I like rubbing shoulders with the Hoi Polloi and the more, the merrier.

Do you not get that a forum is also a place where people get half educated by whatever expert hops on the soap box, I am not trying to be insulting to anyone I just want everyone to be safe and not loose thier firearms privilages or contribute to others loosing privilages.

As for Rome, do a bit more reading and figure out what would happen if you got caught with a weapon in the wrong place! Also do a read on Roman tolerance for seditious disscussion in Forums!
 
He could be a young fellow who has not been around the block enough times yet. To be fair, I did and said a lot of stupid things when I was a teenager. Even in my old age, I still say the odd stupid thing. Hopefully, the young fellow gets the point and takes a more responsible attitude toward antiques.

I'm sure you have the best of intentions David, and that's what motivates your desire for censorship, but I disagree.

I also think, that repeated namecalling (troll) of Luckyorwhat is inappropriate, and unfounded. His posts were legitimate, and he himself thinks your arguments were good enough that he seems to be steering towards picking up an old west replica, to use for his costume.

But he had every right to ask, it wasn't a stupid question, and it is, in fact legally allowable, although perhaps inadvisable, as there are numerous instances of police officers who make gross errors in judgement, and are not called to account.

I say Yea!

I think all those in-line 209 shotshell primer, nylon stocked stainless steel thingyies, are "dumb" and "stupid", but I certainly would be defending you and your desire to speak about them on this forum, were it an issue.

I don't think I'd hunt with any sort of handgun, even if I lived in the states. In fact, I don't hunt at all, just like to shoot holes in paper. But if it is legal here, or may be legal here, then power to those that are interested, and good on them for exploring the legality.

There are two ways to kill a valid sport, one is legislation, the other is willing surrender of civil liberties.

If handgun hunting is legal in Canada, with antiques, and a group of enthusiasts practice the craft in a safe and responsible manner, then that is just as likely to be a wedge to open up the laws, as an excuse to shut it down.

Meekness in the hope of going unnoticed and unchallenged is a poor substitute for courage and forthrightness in the political ordeal that the shooting sports are currently under.
 
I never suggested people should not be allowed to post dumb threads I just felt there should be a specific forum for it.LOL.

I am the master of asking 'dumb' questions, that is how I got to know enough to recgonize dangerous situations.

Meekness or courage are not the only two factors here. I would say that discretion is also very important, especially in choosing what we will carefully and responsibly work toward and what we will probably not want to push, as well as where and how we will exercise our freedom and when we will exercise discretion.

*Im new and have a Question that might seem Stupid so someone give me some advise thread*.
I have Explained the Antique Firearms stuff to ALOT of people and i see new Stickys that are trying to help them out to.

I think the Problem is people are basicly Lazy and Ask a Question rather than take some time to read them Stickys.

So Read then Read somemore then if ya cant find it Ask the question!

The costume and running around with a real antique gun on Halloween was prime for Darwin award tho. :D

But better to ask i guess, if you really couldnt figger it out on your own :rolleyes:

I think the original question reflected someone who is both young and quite a bit out of touch with the real life law enforcement that we see frequently on tv. At the same time it was reasonable. The trouble is that after quite a few replies basically saying it is a stupid thing to do as in likely to get yourself arrested and possibly shot, his reply seems to indicate that he still does not understand the hazard. That is the part that is dumb.

Hey Bobby,
I don't believe running around in a disguise brandishing firearms would constitute courage or forthrightness in any political arena.
And as far as meekness is concerned; I try to use my firearms and antique firearm in a responsible manner. If I am noticed or challenged by the authorities... we will cross that bridge when we get there. Let's put it this way, I've jumped through their hoops and I plan on keeping my firearms.KD
