new found joy .... shooting with slugs

I have recently started shooting just slugs with my 870........and I really find it a fun challenge to see how close i can get my groups at 25 yds or so .......What kind of accuracy is good? I am getting about a 3 1/2 inch group

after about 3 shots I also start to get a head ache....normal??

The most I have ever fired was about 25 slugs in a row. I was a little sore and it gets to be a bit much.

Me too. No more 3" for me.

Three slugs touching at 25m offhand is easy with practice, open sights are easier than a bead. I bet some guys can do better.
WRT your headache, too much recoil can cause you to become 'punch drunk' caused by your brain bouncing around inside your skull from the recoil, it is a mild concussion really. The last course I took recommended no more than 50 slugs a day, some recommend less than that. I often exceed that by far but don't think I have brained my damage yet.

You don't need 3"ers anyhow. Go to 2 3/4" through a semiauto gas gun or good inertial system with a decent recoil pad, and you can shoot all day

My 870 22" smoothbore will make one big hole at 15, cloverleafs at 25, 1.75 @ 50 and 3-5" at 100
My 14" HP-9 smoothbore will match the above out to 25, opens up to 3.5 at 50
My SSi-one rifled slugger would print 1 1/2" at 100

15 years ago i shot a 2 1/2" group at 75yds offhand, rapid fire.

At 25yds, if I do my part, I can get a 1" group offhand.

Try shooting a Barrie 3 gun match!

Hell at the last one they had a stage with 18 slug shots!

Try some 1900fps sabots through a light slug-gun then talk to me about a headache! 2 3/4" foster slugs are a walk in the park.
You should be able to shoot 2 inches off hand at 25 yards with a smoothbore. If not... you better get some Advil and keep practicing!

Lots of different types of slugs to try out there. Try them all if you want, just not all in the same day. If everyone is like me, eventually the sore factor kicks in (about 9 or so shots for me) and my groups open up. So all in all, not a fair comparison.

cool to bad it wasn't good for 600 ( it would be worth the looks you'd get to shoot a service match)
