Hey Guys,
I am new to this , my name is Paul ,:) I am from Lebanon originally but lived most my life in West Africa Ghana, where i had a Few Guns ,
I immigrated to Canada in May 2004 as a New Resident ,
And just completed my Safety Course for Non-Restricted and REstricated courses to go for Taget practice shooting.

But as i was applying for a New permit , i noticed they require a letter of good conduct , is it required or i am close to 5 years so they might overlook
its just a hassle to get one , plus they have one on file before i immigrated here ,

hopefully someone could guide me thanks

Do you mean that they want you to provide a letter showing your lack of criminal record from your country of origin?

I'm British, I have also lived for a period in Texas. As a part of my possession license I provided letters from both the FBI and Scotland Yard saying they had never heard of me. I'm pretty sure you will have to provide the same from all countries you have lived in in the last 5 years. Or is it 10? Its on your application anyway.

Hi Paul! My name is Paul too. :) And guess what? before living here in edmonton I was in Laval (Laval des rapides). I had a friend from lebanon there.
Have you got your membership from any gun-club yet? If not, go for CRAFM, expensive but it worth the money.
Welcome in CGN buddy ;)

No , no gun club yet ,
its the last 5 years , but that means that 5 months before my arrival here? ..

here's the part that asks :

Paul,

its been a while but from memory yeah the letter of good conduct is a statement from your local police authority in Africa saying that your not on their files. They don't write about you being the best goal keeper in the local pub league or anything like that. :)

Call the Police there, they will probably have a form that you need to complete and they will probably want some dollars for admin too. Don't know the system in West Africa but you might wait 5 months to hear back.

Anyway good luck.

Assuming you were a resident the day you arrived and not a landed immigrant then you could wait 5 months and not have the bother. I actually applied as a non resident.

Hey Paul,

If you can overcome your justified love for firearms for another 5 months or whatever is left until you hit five years then, you wouldn't have to go through the reference process if you think it's going to be a hassle. I'm sure there are a lot of difficulties getting such from africa. Translating it if needed, contacting government offices, getting them to do it in a timely fashion.

Welcome aboard. I lived in West Africa (Nigeria) from 1981-83. I did the West Africa tour (Cameroun, Niger, Upper Volta - now Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo and Benin. Jerry Rawlings wasn't too keen on tourists when I hit the Ghanian border so I got turned back. Too bad, I still have a bunch of Cedis rolled up somewhere!!!

Enjoy the site!
