Hi all Jay here in the Nations Capital. I just recently got back into shooting. I was in the military reserves for 17 years where I learned most of my knowledge about firearms. My first rifle was an old Winchester 308 with a fixed scope. It was a semi auto but it always jammed after one shot, so I only ever hunted with one in the chamber, no mag. I basically was waiting for the perfect shot. It never came, and I didn't mind, I just enjoyed spend one week in the woods north of Prince Albert, SK once a year. Sometimes the process is more fun than actually harvesting the animal.
I had a Ruger 10/22 as my second rifle. I enjoyed it a lot, and had lots of fun with it on the prairies. When we were posted to Ottawa in 2001, I never found anywhere to shoot and after 6 years of storage I sold both guns due to lack of use and no where to safely store them where we living. This year, circumstances have changed and I have found hunting partners, ranges and an affordable, accurate and reliable rifle (Savage 114 AC (30-06) and a Savage Mark II (22).
About me:
I work from home, so I have no boss which is very liberating. I enjoy gardening and harvesting my own food and spices. Tomatoes are always better when picked with your own hands. I love being outside, cycling, rollerblading, fishing, hiking.....whatever. I like travelling too. I back packed around Jamaica alone 2 years ago, it was life changing. I would go back and do it again, but there is so much of the world to see, I can't go to one place over and over. I would like to see Africa and New Zealand sometime in the future.
If anyone in the Ottawa area is willing to take on a new hunting party member let me know, as I have only ever field dressed and skinned one deer in my life and it wasn't even my own. I would like to have a mentor.
Take it easy
