hey guys

The new Garage is nearing completion so I'd like to build a wall of benches for reloading and other gun work. Anyone able to set me up with some plans or photos of some builds that they think are real nice.
Thanks Greg

x2, not as big an operation as Fass will have going I am sure but I am also looking for good plans and good suggestions on a bench that preferably has shelves and a locking cabinet on it. I am not the handiest with tools so I wont be building it myself.

If you do other things in the garage, make sure you cover all your gear up; you do not want contaminents all over your reloading gear. That being said, I made the becnh that hk33ka1 has posted; I would put an extra layer of 3/4" plywood on with screws and construction adhesive to avoid flexxing when sizing.

I built my last bench with two counter tops I got from home depot with the frame made from 2x4s attached to the wall and 3 metal desk legs i painted to match. Looks really good but when I do it again in my next house I will use the same counter tops but for the underside use cabinets or drawers for the base. I found these tops are cheap and look alot better then just a plain wood bench. Easy to clean too.

i like having a bench that has nothing under it, just cantilevered off the wall much nicer being able to get your legs under it

mine is made with a 2x3x1/8" hss (hollow structural steel) frame and a 3/4" MDF top

screwed to the studs with vertical braces (legs if you will but they don't touch the ground) at the rear

i have another similar bench in my workshop fastened to the wall in the same fashion. it can take some serious weight!

Maybe it depends on your character, but I find that if my bench is any deeper than it needs to be, it starts to collect crap. A 16-18" work surface with lots of small shelves and wall-cabinets nearby is what I would be looking at.
