New Garand

I was at the gun show and saw a bunch of new Garands by Springfield and I think American Eagle? There is alot of talk about building a Garand... what is the downside of buying one of these? the Springfield was around 1800

I've just finished building my M14(305) after 3 years and would like and Garand shooter out of the box... all things being equal.

Which gun show were you at? I did not know Springfield was producing brand new Garands at least not since the 1950's, I believe American eagle just makes the correct ammo for Garands. However James River Armory does make some real nice new restoration on old Garands .$1800 for a garand isn't too far off, but it better be in excellent condition, typically Garands go for $1000-$1500. The Beretta/Breda Garands are not "new" they are just Garands made in Italy in the 50's and 60's and recently a bunch of Beretta/Breda garand parts came on the market here in Canada. There is NO downside about buying a Garand they are a beautiful and fantastic rifle, tho ammo is getting a tad expensive as surplus 30-06 is almost impossible to find round here.
