New Glock 17 Gen 3 with trijicon sights, calling on Glock Gurus

So got a new Glock 17 Gen 3 with trijicon sights I am in love these Gen 3s. I got a gen 4 22 and its nice but so are all Glocks :) Questions, this gun came with a lot of copper residue on the insides. I know with Glocks they say to not remove it and it shoot it. But should i clean up the other parts of the pistol? Sadly the trijicon rear sights info kinda got scratched by who ever installed them but function perfectly.

Big thank you goes to sporteque.ca for the LE program. I love how these come with three reg cap mags. Sadly caped to 10 :(. Lastly has a a NY1 trigger of 8 pounds.

Are you sure it's copper residue? I know Glock used to use a coppery-coloured lubricant of some sort (anti-seize compound maybe?) on some of the internal parts.

So what should i do? I know there is copper in the rails. But this lub had copper bits in it as well. Still learning Glocks and how to maintain them etc. Any help be appreciated. Thanks its a sweet pistol. Look at last pic, you can see the copper residue.
 
Fully cleaned mine top to bottom and lubed myself before a single shot was fired. I don't know why they would tell you to leave it. Do they expect you to never clean your gun :confused:

In the end, its a glock... it'l work either way ;)

Glock says 'just shoot it'. :cool:


After several hundred, or thousand rounds(your choice), clean it off with a dry brush and sparingly with solvent as needed.
Then lube it the right way.

I use grease instead of oil as I find it stays put longer.

Any help on disassembly of Glocks, They're a B**** to get apart. If you get it half way can you pull trigger to let it go? I've seen this done by some ppl. Gun gets caught half off slide half on and just pulling the trigger back relieves tension for slide to come off? Will this reck the gun?

Double and triple check that it is unloaded, as step 1 is pulling the trigger. Is that what you didn't do?
After the trigger is pulled, you pull the slide back about 5-10mm, pull down on both sides of the slide lock, and off pops the slide(slide it forwards).

I do that but im wondering if im not pulling it back far enough. It shoots forward but gets caught on the slide lock. I sometimes pull the trigger and slide comes loose. I find it hard to get these Glocks apart compared to the Sigs i use to use.

It might be 5-10mm that you have to pull it back. Not much though.
Are you pulling down the 2 sides of the slide lock, or are hitting the slide stop lever?
 
Ya im pulling both sides down but it still feels like its catching on the slide lock.

I pull trigger
pull slide back
pull down both sides of the slide lock and push slide forward but it gets caught on slide lock. So i pull it back and cycle it and pull trigger and try again. I have found that when it gets caught on slide pulling trigger back makes the slide come off.

100% normal, all Glocks come from the factory with the copper lubricant, probably a copper anti-seize compound is what I'm guessing. If you are not happy with the scratched Trijicon sight, give Frederick a call at Sporteque. He's really good to talk to.
 
Glocks are the easiest HG's to take-down AFAIC. You'll get the hang of it and the "cricket" sound will eventually be worked out.
Get yourself a 3.5lb(-) connector to go with the NY1 spring to bring the trigger pull back down to the factory ~5lbs.
 
If you can't retract the slide without resetting the striker you can reverse the steps. Retract the slide to relieve the pressure on the takedown bar. Pull it down with your left hand thumb and middle finger from underneath. Let the slide return to battery(don't let go of the take down bar). Point pistol muzzle down towards table top or into a rag, something to catch the slide. Pull the trigger, and the slide will fall off the gun.
