Consider the special nature of those listed occupations.
...after reading their website, and seeing that they offer a discount to "anyone who was involved with LE/Mil/Paramedics/etc..." before they moved to Canada just pissed me off something FIERCE. They get a discount because they worked for a day as an EMT in Romania, but I don't because I happen to have been born here? You're joking, right? Screw them AND Glock if that's the case. I'll send my money elsewhere.
Anyone gets the discount if you buy a one year membership for $35.
Anyone who is an active or retired:
Peace Officer
Correctional officer
Canadian Forces
Firefighter/Fire Marshal
Ambulance/Paramedics
Conservation/Environment Officer
Federal or provincial Law Officer
Crown Attorney
Nuclear Security officer
Search and Rescue Team Member
Emergency room and Trauma Unit Personel
this includes
Members of the above organizations who served in their home country before moving to Canada.
also get the discount.
You may purchase one discounted GLOCK firearm each calendar year under the programs.
That's the problem. I have to pay $35 to get a discount, while that same discount is offered with zero stipulations and no upfront cost to anyone who just arrived in Canada and worked in the above occupations. Evidently this is a "Glock" sponsored program, and I have a problem with that.
Glock calls it the
Homeland Security discount.
Glock suggests that the people in those occupations are part of a group who work in "public service" -
for all of us - at special jobs (that most of us would prefer
not to do) in situations which are sometimes critical (and which most of us would prefer
never to be in). Glock presupposes that the safe and efficient completion of these special jobs is of great interest to the general public, and that the general public benefits
because these special jobs get done. Glock further supposes that terrorists and criminals pose a danger to the safety of these workers - and their ability to do their jobs - and, by extension, endanger society at large. The jobs are essential,
ergo...the workers are essential.
This program is intended to better-equip these essential workers. The worker who is better prepared to resist attack and who is better prepared to survive an attack - in the event of such an attack - is also better prepared to continue to
do his job with the least disruption to society.
Cui bono? Everybody!
The Glock Homeland Security program applies to all of the above-noted occupations and groups, but, make no mistake,
it is intended to benefit all of society. And that includes
you.
