I've been browsing spotters for the last few days and just found out that Leupold has updated a few models for 2016.

The one that has caught my attention is the new Gold Ring 20-60x80mm with Impact Reticle. Thought I would share it here:

The scope weighs in at 3.8 lbs, so it is on the heavy end but fits in with most 60 power spotters. All of the specs are similar to what is offered by the Vortex Razor HD 20-60x85 and I will post them below.

The reticle is placed in the first focal plane and is a MOA grid with circles along the top and left side spaced 1 milliradian apart to assist in ranging. It should provide a lot for hunters and conventional scope users wanting the visual reference for shot calling, trophy scoring and some ranging.

Another new feature Leupold is using this year is called the Xtended Twilight Lens System. A coating used to enhance blue and violet light transmission for enhanced clarity during low-light situations.

I'm not sure why I would want a reticle in my spotter in a non-tactical application.

Lots of LR guys were buying used Leupold GR 12-40x60 spotters and sending them in to Leupold to have reticles installed. Basically making a Mark4 at a fraction of the cost.
Some were saying the coatings used on the GR series spotters are different/better than the Mark4 line (non laser filter?) giving them a nice image overall.
Maybe Leupold saw enough interest that it was worthwhile bringing to market something they were doing in their custom shop on a regular basis. Besides, the LR hunting market has exploded the last few years. Maybe it's for the new crop of turret spinning tactical hunters out there.
