Hey everyone,

Got my new red GSG 1911 last week. Read a lot about it and most people says that those pistols are selective with ammo... I plan to bring it to the range in the next few weeks and test several brand/style of ammo.

So the question is: What do you shoot in your GSG 1911? I already have Remington UMC golden bullet and Thunderbolt in stock.

Bonus question: Do you recommend any cheap mods to allow better cycling with low end ammo ?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've shot about 20,000 rounds of bucket o bullets outta mine and it's ok but my gun is getting worn out so there are a few more issues then normal.

Good to read that... I am not willing to spend much money on high end 22lr ammo... This is more for fun with new comers than performance...

Yep....broke mine in with CCI minimags..then fed bulk all the way...they like that little bit more fps...

When I had one it liked minimags, golden bullets and federal 525. Not sure if anything has changed on the newer models but a couple years back the frame and slide rails had some kind of paint/coating which I found restricted the gun a bit when cycling. I found polishing the the frame and slide rails to reduce friction when it cycles helped. It should break in on its own eventually and remove the coating but that may take a couple bricks of ammo.

I have GSG 1911

Ammo that shoots best of what I have used
-CCI high velocity (any type)
- Sellier&Bellot standard (1 stovepipe but very accurate)
-American Eagle 38gr HP
-federal game shok 40gr RN

Ammo that functions perfectly but not as accurate
-federal automatch

Ammo that I do not recommend (more than one fail to fire/jam/miscellaneous)
-federal champion standard velocity, (completely unshootable 3+ jams/misfires per magazine)
-Remington Thunderbolt ( worst ammo I have ever bought, this ammo has had at least one case jam in the chamber of every 22 I own including bolt actions, semi's and singles accuracy is above avg from one bolt action but otherwise Remington needs to review the quality of their products compared to their competitors

Enjoy your new pistol. I really like mine. Like all 22lr firearms try several brands to see which works best for that firearm and simple just buy what works best for you after that in some bulk.

Thanks for that input. This is a common comment and I intended to polish if someone here was recommending.

Thanks for that! I am somewhat surprised about the Thunderbolt... I use them in my bolt action rifle and many guys use them at the range without much problem... I don't know for semi, but having some in the ammo storage, I will try them anyway.

No problem. You may not even need to do it so I'd go shoot it first to see how it performs. If you have a lot of issues with most types of HV 22lr ammo and you wish to polish the frame/slide then I'd recommend going slow and easy while making sure to not remove much if any material. The goal is to remove the coating only of course

525 Fed Bulk runs fine in mine. Win555s give it grief on occasion but I think that's an ammo issue. Run her wet and don't use any form of grease.

I highly recommend the ZRTS Ultimate Performance Package from Blue Line Solutions. I installed that package right away when I got my brand new GSG 1911. The kit eliminates all ammo related problems and improves accuracy. So far, I've had around 1,600 shots through the pipe with nearly all available brands of 22LR ammo without any problems whatsoever. With the kit installed, the pistol may require a taller front sight which can also be purchased from Blue Line Solutions.
It's not super cheap but worth it.

2-3 hundred rounds CCI Mini mags to break-in, then Fed 525 bulk, Fed Automatch, Blazer should be good. Win 555, 333, 222 is not bad. I find Winchester Wildcat to be "jamomatic". Remington tub is also good but very dirty. Winchester M22 is also good. After few thousand rounds, you might be able to use SVs. Another point to remember, do not over-tighten the barrel retaining screw as this is a common wear point. Keep the slide well lubed to prevent premature wear. ZRTS Ultimate Performance Package is a good upgrade and does not require a barrel retaining screw.

If only one rifle had a round expand in the chamber I may have written it off. I purchased 500 rds of thunderbolt and from memory this was my exp
GSG15 rifle, approx 30 rds fired.
- jam on 3rd round then live round stuck in chamber after primer strike, was in tial mag so thought it was break in I tried another mag and got 3 jams and then a spent casing stuck in the chamber.
GSG 1911, approx 50 rds
- 1 casing stuck in chamber, at least 3-4 jams and a couple of stovepipe
Norinco JW25A, approx 280 majority
- 1 one stuck in chamber after firing pin strike (all stuck rounds required rod removal, otherwise shot well
10/22 takedown, the rest
- ate it like an SKS

I used it all up but won't be risking it on anymore of that nonsense. By the way the federal champion std velocity does shoot aces from the norinco. Usually its recommended High velocity for most semi's unless directed otherwise.

Added that to my wishlist! seems an interesting upgrade for shooting consistency. Thanks!

I will sue shoot it before any mods, but already planing things if it doesn't perform well :)
