New GSG 1911 in the safe... now, what do you shoot in it?

I shot mine, a desert tan coated model, before any mods, jams galore, tried all sorts of ammunition, CCI, Federal, Winchester, S&B etc. Except Remington. I will not use that stuff in any gun personally.
Then polished the rails on the frame and slide. Gun worked flawlessly with same ammo.
Then just for overkill I installed a ZRTS performance kit.
That improved accuracy because of the matched barrel cone and bushing.
 
I started out with a few thousand CCI mini mags then switched over to Remington buckets. My fiance and I put 200 down range today wit that gun and ammo combo and only had one FTF.

I've got a shiny new GSG 1911 in my safe too. Waiting for paperwork to take it to the range. Ordered a ZRTS kit as well from Blue line (which arrived scary fast), dry fit everything when i had the gun apart for its initial cleaning, but am planning on shooting it stock to start with. Im a little curious about how the kit actually improves accuracy, since there's easily as much of a gap between the bushing and the thread protector on the ZRTS kit as there is stock (which was surprising, I was actually expecting to see an interference fit there)

Thinking im going to pick up some mini mags for break in. Have a couple thousand M-22's (got a great deal on them) hoping it will be ok with, but, guess we will have to see. I know my 10/22 and my buddies' mk22 both eat them happily.

I didnt do any rail polishing, but, I did note that from racking the slide a half dozen times, there are some contact points that were painted originally that are now shiny. Cant help but think, hmm, maybe put a little bit of a medium/coarse cutting medium (cut polish) on that channel and rack it a couple dozen times then clean it up... i would expect this to work much better than trying to sand it. But, then again, im not a gunsmith.
 
I installed the ZRTS kit and have had zero issues with any ammo
i also took the time to polish it out
i also picked up the spare parts kit as who knows how available parts will be years from now

federal blue box shot the tightest groups for mine. Wildcats were by far the worst.

I made the mistake of taking the gun to the range with absolutely no cleaning and tried to shoot it straight out of the box, got tons of FTF and stovepipes on the first mag of every ammo I tried. While my friend said that was a great way to practice your malfunctions, I really did need to oil it so we just dropped some generic oil he had on the slide path from the back of the gun and bam, reliable for the rest of the day. I actually tore it down and cleaned it proper that night haha.
 
CCI Minimags, FED 525 Bulk, Blazer, Win 333/555 and Win M22 are good. Rem Buckets seems OK but dirty. Win Wildcat is one of the worst. Just make sure you use HV rounds, otherwise you will get all feed and eject failures. You can try sub-sonics after couple of thousand rounds. Make sure the slides is well lubed. Light oil is suggested, no grease. Enjoy!
 
So, ive put a couple of thousand rounds through my gun at this point. Shot it once stock & then installed the ZRTS kit. Started with mini mags, couple of bricks later id had a handful of stove pipes and a couple FTF and FTE's. In most of the early cases, I blame the operator - contact between my meaty hands and the slide, felt it, learned to expect the failure.

Now, a half dozen trips & cleaning in, its being fed a stead diet of golden bullets & im seeing 1-2 stove pipes for every three mags. Its not a huge deal at this point. I might go buy some more mini mags for it, but, I have a lot of golden bullets on hand courtesy of the recent rebate & would like to be able to shoot them. In the mean time, im hoping the gun is still settling in and will hopefully get better.

One lesson i have learned, do not charge it via the slide lock. Guaranteed she wont go into battery. Slingshot works every time.

I haven't had a range trip not having a dud in these basically 1 in every 200 rounds or so... I bought a case of 8 boxes and still got 2.x boxes to go...

What is the ZRTS performance kit and where can I get one, my GSG 1911 hardly gets out of the safe anymore cause I can't hit #### with it compared to my other 22's.

Thanks for that! I am somewhat surprised about the Thunderbolt... I use them in my bolt action rifle and many guys use them at the range without much problem... I don't know for semi, but having some in the ammo storage, I will try them anyway.

I've heard thunderbolts mostly work well in bolt guns, since people usually aren't firing fast with them. Something about the wax. On semi autos they foul very fast, I assume from the extra heat.
 
I have a colt 1911 in 22 and I have shot Browning 40gr which my gun really likes, American Eagle 40gr and my gun does not like them at all, CIL shoot great with no issues.

I went out last week and I tried a box of 100 Remington Golden Bullet's and WOW did I have issues with that stuff, I swore off it, only going to use up what I had in my bolt action rifle and my
old revolver that eats anything. I had miss fires, bad ejections, and I had a case split where I had to use a cleaning rod to get the shell case out of the barrel it was jammed in there so tight. Yesterday
I brought 5 boxes of 100 up to the range of this golden bullet stuff and give it another try, not one issue, they all shot perfectly, I was on target at 30 feet, I must have a very bad box my first try
with them.

But I'm still finding out what does and doesn't work in mine and the best I think is just to buy a couple hundred rounds of each and try them out.

The ZRTS performance package is an upgrade pack containing a bushing, a threaded cone for the end of the barrel, a metal guide rod and some other small parts.

I have the Sig and my wife has the GSG, both with thousands of rounds thru them. Although both will cycle almost any ammo, I run CCI 40gn mini mags exclusively in both. I use mine for speed steel, so I want as much reliability as possible in a semi .22, so I don't cheap out on ammo for it. I've never felt the need to install the ZRTS kit, as it's not a "target" pistol to me and I don't need incredible accuracy out of it, steel plates aren't small lol. Even in its well used stock configuration I have no problem smashing clays at 25-30 yards with it, and a rapid fire group at 10-12 yards can usually be covered with a toonie, accurate enough for my needs :)

See my post #15. It's not only accuracy improvement with the ZRTS Performance Package but, more importantly, a great improvement in reliability when shooting diverse brands of ammo. I've been shooting ALL ammo 1200fps and higher in my GSG 1911 without any hiccup whatsoever. Another great improvement with the ZRTS kit is the ELIMINATION of that small set up screw which is idiotic in the first place. After each reassembly it slightly changes the sight alignment. After installing the ZRTS kit you simply remove that screw and can shoot without it. No set up screw, no problem anymore.
Having said all that, you must realize that with the ZRTS kit, you would have to install a taller front sight. I bought a new "GSG 1911 Front and Rear Sight Kit" from Blue Line Solutions together with the ZRTS Performance Package. The rear sight in the sight kit is METAL and adjustable for windage. It also contains 5 front sights of various height. All these extra accessories increase the total price but IMHO they are worth every penny.
