Heres some pictures of a first pass at blueing. i just had a little bit laying around, I didnt have enough to finish, just wanted to see what it looked like. I am going to use it as a primer for when im polishing to see if i have any high spots.
i more or less just wanted to see how it would take. its interesting turned an interesting grey. pretty original. stole the grips from my other 1911 to see how it would look. im going to make some nice reddish brown grips for this one

put some work into her the past few days. not sure how im going to finish it yet... it needs a some new fittings, the grip safety, slide stop and spring cover are pretty rough shape...
and ill have to look into a new front sight. it turned out not bad, i love the steel unfinished look, but I still think im going to have to do some polishing for get out some of the file scratchs

The metal came out nice and i managed to keep all of the edges nice and sharp.

cleaned up fittings on it, still not sure how I am going to finish it. probably blue it, or park it but not sure. the grip safety may need some work but I may just pick up a beaver tail one.
I hate those rubber grips, but havnt had time to make up a set of wood ones yet.
now the the slide is blank it looks a little plane jane without any markings on it, but will decide later what to do with it.

I need to clean up the serrations but they are a Pain in the ass...

Nice effort, but again make sure it's looked over by someone in the know before you shoot it. You seem to have done quite a bit of filing.
Those were serious pits and as most semi owners know, a compromised slide should never be fired.
The small frame cracks around slide stops common to some Colts that were dealt with by cutting them out
are not in the same league as a small crack or weak metal spot on a slide. A recoiling slide takes the brunt of the cycle.

Went to the range Sunday and shot through 50 rounds of factory .45 no problem. as I said earlier, the rust is only on the outside of the slide, the inside of the slide and the barrel is actually in very good shape.

If you think mine is bad, then check out this one:

he dug it out of the mud, if you read through to the end it actually fired fine after replacing the barrel.

Anyone have any suggestions on finish? im probably going to blue it, but im thinking of also either hand polishing it, or Parkerizing it.
if I could go back I would have just stripped it and electrolysis, then maybe tig welded the deep pits, maybe just left it, but it is what it is.
