New gun! Abbotsford newbie

Hey!

I've been on this forum for sometime.. had a gun, sold the gun.. been a while since, and now I have a rem 700 .308 on its way!

I'm not a huge fan of the range, and I'd love to get into long range shooting in the Abbotsford/Chilliwack/Mission area..

If anyone one lives in the area and wants to help a new shooter out I'll buy the beer! I have some books on the way but its always great to have some guys to ask questions too!

Welcome Curtis. Long range shooting is a relative term. Some people think long range is 300 yards. To others, long range is 1000 yards plus. Mission has a 300 yard range if you are interested. Abbotsford 100 yards, Ridgedale 180 yards and POCO 200 yards (I think). If you are not a fan of ranges, there is lots of empty space in BC. Pick a logging road and drive. Use a mountain as a backstop.

StoneHorse, I'd like to one day shoot out to 1000 yards!.. I'm sure It will be some time before I can do that however!

Can a rifle be shot on any Crown land when safe to do so, when you have a proper back stop?.

Of course. You can take your non-restricted and shoot on Crown land. Just be sure of your backstop and have fun. Oh yes, pack out what in take in. Leave NO garbage behind, respect the land. Take only pictures and leave only footprints.

OK, I will get off my soapbox now :D.

Sorry bud, not trying to ignore you.. I'm not on there much. Yes, for sure I'll give you a call... I expect to be in the bush lots this year, so there will be lots of time to practice at extended ranges. My wife works at WSS, so if you're in the market for a scope etc, drop in and she can help you out.
