New gun buyer unhappy with purchase.

smiley1,

Nope I accept that its going to get dirty and scratched etc. But when I purchased my drill it it was pristine and in a box with its full packaging. Selling as new means just that, if this had been marked 'As New' I could probably understand that I should not expect more. I am just hoping the gun works and that it has not been on the shelf because some other purchaser managed to get them to take it back? I also failed to do my homework, if I had researched Epps and found this forum I would have know what to expect and could have reacted accordingly.

+1 on contacting your credit card company and filing "dispute the charge" claim. Reason would be "Goods received were not as ordered"

I've seen quite a lot of negative comments about Epps since I've joined this forum........ Enough to make me shop elsewhere despite their often attractive prices.

J_K_S,

I did what I thought was a lot of research and to be honest I cannot fault the original guy at the store even though I was upsold. The gun was definitely the better choice, just should have checked the condition a lot closer before handing over the cash.

absolutely BS. and for those who think its fine to buy a new anything and get used, give your head a shake. If you bought a new truck, and it was not new, you would be absolutely outraged, and it would be on the national news as fraud. Yea, its gonna be beat up in a few days, weeks etc, as its a work tool, but its NEW now and should be new.

The other thing is, if this guy wants to buy it as a new shiny toy, THATS HIS RIGHT. it was HIS money. If he wants to take it home, polish it up and never use it, that's fine. If he wants to admire the quality and the asthetics, that's his right.

this guy comes to our country, tries to fit in, goes to an actual store, not online, buys a quality firearm, and gets treated like this?

this kind of entitlement from firearms dealers is NOT good for any of us, least of all legitimate firearms businesses.

:agree:

Any body surprised that Epps is saying nothing about this ? I'm not ......

Yea, it is only been like a couple hours. How dare they not reply to this thread immediately?!?
Let's hear the story of the other side first before jumping to any conclusion.

I have dealt with Ellwood Epps a couple times and I have no issue with them. They did made a mistake once but they fixed it pretty fast.

Last year I bought a $1,000 gun safe from crappy tire, it was discounted to $599 - great deal I thought, brought it home and there was a dent in one of the corners - I went back WITHOUT the safe and asked them if they want the safe back or give me another $200 - guess what they did? Why is there no return policy in firearms anyways?

BTW - Epps is closed Monday's during winter time.

The two posts above are valid points. I'm not saying the OP is in anyway misrepresenting the situation but Epps certainly deserves a chance to give their take on the situation before we all rush to judgement.

Having said that, I have seen several complaints about Epps level of customer service before so maybe it's a case of "where there's smoke there's fire"?

I also think that if I was handed a gun not in the original sealed packaging I'd think "display model" and look it over pretty closely.

I am supposed to send my jr carbine there for warranty work, now I'm afraid to do so! I contacted jr carbine directly and their service was top notch. He told me epps is their warranty centre here. Maybe I'll just keep the gun the way it is and only load 7 rounds instead of 8-10.
Sounds like a headache to deal with these guys.

Gents,

I look forward to hearing what Epps has to say, I am just posting in the hope of letting other newbies like me have the information they need to make a successful purchase whether its at Epps or elsewhere. The more information we have the better decisions we make and it removes the possibility of having a very bad taste in your mouth from the experience. In the end this is probably going to be a he said she said argument which will serve no value to anyone, fore warned is fore armed (that's a nice cliche). If Epps needs a better website I can help, its what I do and I stand by my products, they sell guns, its what they do but.....

I've purchased 5 guns from epps all witch were all shipped due to the fact I live about 6 hours away and have never had a problem. I also think their website is easy to navigate.

Bought a few guns from EPPS, condition was always good.

Only issue I have had with them is some of the sales reps are pretty condescending, I know alot about firearms no expert by any means but a couple of times I have gone there and made to feel like a total dummy.

I no longer shop there for those reasons, that and their prices are not as competitive as other retailers.

Hopefully they make it right to the OP.

This can be interesting .

All my Sigs come new and appear as such . But when I get them home and white glove clean them . I often find carbon and crap in them. From factory firing.

So my take on this is odd.

Yes some guns are super clean and some seem dirty.
I have purchased over ten guns from Epps.
My Beretta 90-2 dirty , 2 Glocks clean , Ruger 1022 appeared clean but found carbon in the guts . M14 clean . SKS packed with crap.

You'll notice one thing there. You purchase lets say a Mossberg 590a1. They bring the box down open it .

This is your opportunity to inspect it, take another one , decline it .... whatever.

They give you a slip to pay for it at the cash . You return paid its yours .

This happens a Al flarities , Epps , Al simmons. Fishing World .

When that box opens and they look at you for your acceptance.

This is your quality control step .

If this happened and you bought it anyway its basically your fault .

BUT having said that. I have opened the box on a Mossberg 590a1 with the wacky trigger reset on it and I couldn't get it to fire at all and had to take another gun. It was broken in the box . I generally don't dry fire guns but this time I did. Finding this out at home. I would have been pissed off too.

If you buy a Ruger 1022 for pinking whom cares about this stuff youll mark it soon enough.
But if you buy a brand new ACR NR enhanced in black and are planing on collecting it. These cosmetic issues matter a lot .

Ordering stuff over the phone I ask them to pull it from stock , open the box , does it work ?
Then I say, "lets pretend we are family" , and for a moment "you care". Do you see anything wrong with it ? because I'm collecting it and I will send it back .

This is who I protect myself . I suggest you do the same. And wish you the best .

I know the feeling of getting ripped off when buying a firearm. Same thing happend to me when I first started buying rifles. The good news is that this will make you a smarter firearms buyer as it did with me. EPPS will NEVER get a penny from me.

We have to drive these shady scum bags out of business so someone with integrity can fill the void.

Why don't these stores just have a guy clean the guns real quick and shine them up?
Car dealerships always wash the cars. Computer stores dust off the computers.
I too have seen dirty dirty guns come right off the rack in stores, and I always wonder why they don't go that extra step to make a customer feel good and proud of their purchase.
Hell, I've bought guns off the EE and that pretty much are all IMMACULATE clean.

It don't take more than 5-10 minutes for a quick barrel swab and wipe down.

This posting is why I dislike internet forums, I was behind this man at Epps and had to wait my turn behind this "wronged" customer. The people at Epps should have been commended for their patience with this man. First he wanted to return it because the bore was damaged, which the staff took time to explain was gas ports. Then he complained to the staff that the "bubble wrap was different" as a reason for return.
Then it was the dirt (the gun was clean I was right there). They took time to get another gun to show that each of these make believe issues were not a problem and gave a direct number to call if he had anymore issues. This poster then AGREED to take his gun home. After he left I was shown over a dozen pistols, great advice and great service was given from the same fellow who was the owner and was there on a Sunday morning to help. I could not believe this post when my husband read it to me, this fellow should be ashamed.
