New Gun Day, Help with oiling question

New M&P day .. very happy indeed!

After getting home and fondling it, getting comfortable with all the buttons and the way things worked, I decided to attempt a field strip.

Got all the pieces out fine, wiped everything out (including the bore) with Hoppes Solvent, and then wiped everything out (including the bore) with Hoppes Lube. AFter that was done, I dropped 1 drop of oil on the 7 points indicated in the manual including the 4 slide contact points.

My question is, is Hoppes oil on the slide contact points enough? Everything on the slide is lightly covered in hoppes which I think is okay, and u dont really need to worry about the frame due to it being synthetic... but I am unsure if Hoppes oil is durable enough for the slide contact points..

EDIT - One more question, is it okay to store the handgun in the foam box that it came in? Or should I find some other way to store the gun ... ? I'm unsure if the foam will soak the oil away from the finish and leave it to rust if I leave it for a month or two w/o shooting..

I use all temperature waterproof wheel bearing grease (the type you use on boat trailers-you can get a big tube at Canadian Tire for $4). You only need a match head sized amount on the four rail tabs and the barrel hood and then work the slide back and forward a few times. I think the foam box is fine for storage, especially if you hung on to the brown paper the gun had wrapped around the slide when it left the factory.
PS -try switching the mag release to your strong side for your trigger finger to reach, once you get used to it you'll wish all guns could do that. I can't wait to get one in 45-hopefully in January
