New gun problem

I took my brand new Sphinx SDP to the range for the first time and I experienced double feeding problems with both mags! On top of that, both magazines failed to lock the slide open when empty (even cycled by hand).
Any help would be much appreciated!

What is your experience with handgun shooting?
The reason I ask is:
Your grip/ wrist may be contributing to a double feed/ cycling issue.
And are you resting your thumb on the slide stop when cycling or shooting the gun? This will prevent the slide from locking on empty. Unlikely on a CZ style gun but anything is possible especially if you have long thumbs.
The Sphinx is a Swiss made quality gun so hard to imagine a factory fault, although it can happen.

If you’re an experienced shooter, then disregard. May be mag issues then!
 
Definitely not my fault, and the same thing happened to two different shooters (me and my buddy).
I used two different kind of ammo (Federal 124 gr and Remington 115 gr).
I suspect a mag problem, but the same problem with BOTH brand new mags?

Hmmm. That is weird but not impossible, I guess. Your ammo choice is pretty normal. A Sphinx should feed both.
Check with your dealer?
 
Would be interesting to know who this great dealer is. Letting a customer hang like this must be shared with potential customers.

My advice, return the defective gun for a full refund, inform you CC provider if there is a problem.
 
First I will call North Sylva, let see what they can do (they are suppose to deal with any warranty issues).
It is not my first time dealing with this dealer and every time they have been very helpful and polite, true professionals. I truly believe that they will do their best to solve the problem.

Next time I have something I need to know from North Sylva, I'm going to ask you nicely to handle it. I have never had any luck with them and I hope the OP's luck is better than mine.

BTW, what model is it? A compact or an Alpha or production?

Can you describe the "double feed"?

Is it a failure to extract or failure to eject?

Can you see the magazine follower trying to push up on the slide release/lock?

What kind of lubricant are you running? Does the slide lock/release move freely under minor spring tension?

Has the gun been stripped, cleaned and lightly lubricated?
 
Load the mags with snap caps or dummy rounds and cycle the slide. This may help diagnose the problem. Hopefully this results in a simple fix.

The gun ejects the spent round, chambers another one but the next is already out of the mag and jams the slide.
Before shooting, I cleaned and lubricate the gun.
I try to lock the slide back on empty mag and it does not lock, but does not come back fully in battery either! It stops like half the way, scratching the follower.

A professional customer baseed deealer would have asked you to bring it in for them to examine, and offer a refund if it was a new pistol

most likely a mag issue, or recoil spring. Check the mags and see if they are the correct calibre for the pistol

Does it do the jam with a full mag only? Or everytime? And will the gun return to battery with no mag in? Madcow has a point. Check your mags and see if they're made for a .40 cal.

It jams every time!
The gun returns to battery with no mag.
The SDP only comes in 9 mm as far as I know and the mags are marked 9mm
