Alright... So here it is.

I have a choice, I can get a NEA-15 14.5" with a vortex strikefire. The strikefire will come to about $135 before taxes.

Or I can get the strikefire on its own for around $190 price range after taxes and mount it on a Norc M305 shorty.

However I have a feeling the M305 is better with an actual magnified scope vs a red dot.

The big issue is I don't have a club membership, I will this year but I wont renew next year again (personal reasons). So the choice, $1,380 (NEA 15) for a rifle I wont be allowed to shoot after this year, or $760 (M305) I will be able to shoot this year and occasionally for the years to come, membership or not.

In the future yes I hope to hold a membership again, but I'm not sure where I'll live. This is why non-restricted offers more "security" in this area.

To me the AR-15 is ideal for a red-dot, which is what I'm looking for, but if the M305 with a red-dot can prove to be a good system as well I would prefer to go with that due to the above mentioned reasons.

Just looking for suggestions, personal opinions/experience or if you have a suggestion for some other rifle that the red-dot would work well with.

IF you have the cash to support the ammunition for the m305 that's the route I'd go. Also, why shell out that type of cash for a rifle that will be nothing but a PITA for you. If I could afford to blow through .308 like I do .223, I'd be running an M305 EBR. Definitely my all time favorite BR

You know now that I think about it, I have an sks with a tapco t6. I may just put the strikefire on that and shoot the shorty on iron sights.

The only downside there is to get to the gas piston you need to remove the gas cover (hand guard) which is what the red dot would sit on. Not sure how that may affect zero. depends on how it sits when it goes back on...

Thanks for the suggestions alpha.

Given that you are unsure about access to a range after this year, you're better off getting a m305. But then my preference would be mounting a magnified scope rather than a red dot on that rifle.
