so if i were to purchase a brand new rifle on saturday and wanted to fire it on sunday, do i need to do anything to prep it or can i just shoot it as it comes out of the box.
what about the action? im thinking about a savage 64fxp package, its a semi, just to piss off any liberals, so would the action be good to go if i just oil the barrel and outside of the action or do i need to strip it down, cause i dont know how to do that.
"...straight from the box..." Clean it first. BNIB firearms usually come covered in a preservative. That needs to come off before shooting. No big deal. Regular cleaning solvent will do nicely. Do not shoot any firearm with oil in the barrel.
And clean the bore. It was recommnded to me to clean my CZ452 and the was crap coming out the bore beyond the first clean patch, then more with solvent, and more again with the second cleaning of solvent.
When it comes to the cleaning after shooting about 500....the gun is basically made of 5 working parts and quite simple to disassemble and reassemble. They all "hinge" on the large stud that holds the stock on. Once the barrel is off things slide out of the action and just clean and lightly oil. Reassemble and get out shooting again.
If you are local to a Voodoo tribe, I'd bring it in for it's initiation ritual (they'll usually do it for $5 and a bottle of rhum) This will provide you with worry free shooting for years to come and his highly recommanded if you plan on using your new rifle to fight off zombies.
But if you rifle will only be used for plinking and the like, a quick cleaning of the barrel and oiling of the action is sufficient.
