New gun rule ...

I had a friend come visit me and he wanted to see my new SR-22. So I handed it to him and while he's talking to me he is rubbing the gun and the barrel looking it over and I noticed he had his wedding ring on... he hands the gun back to me and there are scratches all over the barrel right through the blueing and to the metal :eek:

The gun is a week old and to say I'm not happy is an understatement. Anyways so he leaves and I run the gun into my shop remove all oil off the barrel with alcohol and apply blueing to the scratched areas... after a bit of applying, removing, applying etc. the marks are almost unnoticeable now... thank God.

Through this I created a new gun rule: I am the only one allowed to handle my guns from now on.

Am I being too anal??
 
No. If you don't tell them what they are doing wrong though, they can't get smarter and correct the problem
 
No your not, you worked hard to purchase your gun & you take care of your stuff, I would be pissed too.

I bought a new vehicle & I was very pissed off to find my first scratches which were not caused by me, I was so upset I wanted to trade it in & buy a new one. but this is me.

Oh he'll know the next time I see him when he asks to see my gun and I say no and tell him why.

I didn't notice the scratches until he left and while I did notice the ring as he was looking it over, I didn't want to seem anal and hoped he wasn't rubbing it on the metal.

Both of us will have learned from this experience, that's for sure.
 
you always get pissed of at scratches whether on cars or guns, but after the 1st one, you care less and less.

your new rule should rather be: take of rings before handling

I have several long guns and several pistols and while I use them all and don't "baby" them, none have dings, scratches etc... just normal wear.

I think every scratch would pi$$ me off as I don't consider that normal wear.

At this point the rule still stands! :)

pet peeve of mine too. or they rack a semi when the trigger lock is on, and i gotta go find the key and dry fire it to relieve the tension. ugh. half the time thats why i don't want or like to display my rifles, the hassle.
 
racking the action with the trigger lock on is my pet peeve too, but atleast it shows some proper thinking and knowledge on there part to making sure the weapon is safe so i usually let it go without a word. the ring thing is a good point tho, my buddies do seem to like to carress my rifles for some reason.
 
gloves

I have a Ruger collector friend who lets me fondle his guns, no problem, but makes me put on the white cotton disposable gloves before he does. I have no problems with that, his collection is intense and if someone doesn't want to use the gloves, they don't get to touch. No you're not being anal, you just care about your weapons. Tell him though, they need to learn.

Oh crap. I didn't even think of that. The problem with my XCR is that if I don't rack it then I can't put it back to safe.

And no, there is nothing wrong with being protective of your stuff. I'd be very upset as well. Which is why I am never letting anybody else drive any of my vehicles.
 
Next time he comes over, sit on the hood of his car and cross your legs.
Make sure you're wearing hiking boots with the nasty top lace hooks.

i think i would blow a fuse lol. i yell at my GF/friends when they dont close my car doors by the handles and smear finger prints al over the door and windows...
 
Sounds to me like your friend just bought a gun. You can use the money he gives you to replace your SR22......not like it's a Civil War era colt single action Army......the SR22 is replaceable.
