So I went down to Arizona to hang out with a friend of mine who used to be a Marine, we went and shot some guns (among other things) and I've gotta say I'm totally sucked into shooting. Right now I'm looking to get into rifle target shooting and maybe long term some hunting.

I joined this site cause it was said to be a great place to talk to Canadians about gun ownership and help out a newbie like me. The paperwork and whats restricted and not is a big part of what I'm looking to figure out. After that I'll just enjoy talking to people who share the interest and love of shooting.

Hello and welcome. There are a lot of good people at this site, and lots of good information. Enjoy it. And by the way, my USMC (ret.) friends tell me that there's no such thing as someone who "used to be" a Marine. They're always Marines.
 
Heh, fair enough, the man is still definitely tied into it. He walks and talks like one, its his favourite pick up line! He still has lots of connections with his old friends too.

He was actually a scout sniper so when I went down there he was a brilliant teacher in the basics of shooting. He set me up on his Remington 700 and had me hitting a quarter group at 100 yards my first day of shooting. I hit a gong at 500 yards the second day we went out. So thats the genesis of my sudden desire to get into this hobby/sport/obsession.
