Hey everyone!

Just received my MK12 today from Bullseye in London. I've got a few issues that I'm wondering if anyone else has had, or if I'm just being too picky.

Instead of typing it all out I'll just post the email I sent to Bullseye about this.

I just took delivery of an MK12 from you.#

Upon opening I noticed some dings in the top pic rail and looked like gunpowder in the chamber. For whatever reason I didn't look down the barrel.

First question is the rear flip up sight doesn't look like it's drilled enough? The hole is much smaller than the other sight in the case. I can barely see through it. Picture attached.#

2. it's chewing up the brass on my slugs. This seems like a safety issue. Picture attached

3. The 2 round mag only fits 1 shell. Really tight to get 2 in, but if you get 2 in the chamber won't open. If it does open it will tear the plastic on the shell. Big safety hazard here.#

4. Seems to jam up. With both the 2 round mag and the 5 it'll jam. I'll put it in the gun, go to pull the charge handle back and it won't move. I try to get the mag out and it's everything I can do to get it out. Not sure what's with that. It happened 3 times over the course of 15 slugs and 20 #8's.#

5. The inside of the barrel is scuffed and scratched to ####. I should have examined the barrel better before I shot, but didn't think I needed to take a light and examine it. It was clear so I went ahead.#

After cleaning I looked with a light to ensure it was perfectly clean and found that it was all scratched and scuffed. Surprised I decided to check my Beretta that has had hundreds of rounds through it, and my Browning o/u that has had thousands of rounds through it. Not one scuff or scratch in either gun. That leads me to believe this gun came scratched. Picture attached. (It was very very hard to get a picture of the scratches. To an eye it's very obvious, the camera had a hard time capturing it.)

My concerns are that this could have been a used gun that was returned. I'm also concerned about the dangers of the plastic shells being torn, and brass being chewed up.

Please let me know your thoughts!

P.s. I'm a member of many forums, and I know people hate when a new person's first post is negative. However I can't get a hold of bullseye this evening, and I'm really not sure if I'm overreacting and this is all normal with MK12's, or if I've got some issues that need to be fixed on the gun.

so you know they test fire guns from the factory...the dirty i wouldn't worry about....the brass being mangled will probably settle once you work the gun in.....try loading the gun with the bolt open ( put empty mag in, lock it back...then chamber from open bolt.....make sure you clean it really well before you start shooting it...my mk-10 had really thick viscous oil in it...have to get all that out........next these guns do need a bit of break in before...in the first 100 rounds or so i put through mine...i had maybe 6 or 7 maybe a few more jam, couple stove pipes..a couple where the shell bent and didn't feed....all the rounds still went boom....you'll notice some wear marks on the mags once you get some more rounds through it and it should run fine......start with slugs and buck and faster loads before going to 1200fps target loads...don't try and shoot less than 1200 fps loads may not cycle...it is a gas operated semi after all...enjoy and hope that helps ... in my mk-10 im now probably close to 400 rounds or mixed shells through it and it runs like a top...

annnnnd your sights are installed backwards

that rear sight aperture splits in two use your fingers and pull them apart,

use the big aperture for close in shooting and the small one for longer distances.

Sounds like a piece of sh**... Sell it and get a 870/Auto-5/Benelli etc. You shouldn't have to put up with this or have issues like this

I have a MK12. The magazines will need to be worked in before they will comfortably fit all the rounds they are designed for, for the longest time I could only just squeeze 4 rounds into the 5 round mag but now I can get 5 rounds in easily. They need a break in period, shoot loads with higher power for the first 100-200 rounds to settle everything in. Insert mag when the bolt is open and then slam it shut, they do not take kindly to riding the bolt when chambering. Stovepipe and other feed/ejection issues will occur with lighter loads such as the challenger target loads at least within the first 100-200 rounds before break-in, and less so after break in (I am at the point where feed/ejection issues are extremely rare with mine). If shooting cheap target load like the challenger stuff, use the full choke and things will be much more reliable. Clean regularly, makes a big difference.

Relax a bit, take a breath, The MK12 is a very fun gun but its got its flaws. Once you know them, work around them and enjoy it for what it is :)

Thanks for the non-help bro !!! .....if i wanted an 870/a5/benelli ...i'd get one...but that's not what the OP is asking so here is the door and don't let it hit you on the way out......

My Derya Mk12 also had thick black packing oil in it. I cleaned it & re-oiled it and it fired fine. Open-bolt for the first little bit is always good. As for the sights, once I get my Derya broken in and I'm confident she works well, I'm going to remove them and get a red dot or something for it.

Just tried mine this weekend!

Really like it! No jams with 2 box of slugs followed with a box of bird shot! Yes the mags are a little tights but will shurely loosen up with time ! Suprisingly precise with slugs ! A bit heavy but the AR ergo give a tight grip and position!

I admit I was drawn by the tacti cool non restricted part of the thing since I usually use an over under for small game or center fire and black powder for big games . But I think I could use the MK 12 for Turkey hunting or even Deer or Moose with slugs at close ranges !

Enjoy

The issue with the bolt not moving is related to how tight the mags are with full mags. The bolt spring doesn't have enough force to push forward. Just need to give a little push or the mags will eventually smooth out.

FYI. I also have a pretty new derya mk12 for sale on EE. With 4 additional 5rd mags. Great shotgun!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I talked to Bulleye and they offered to take the gun back to exchange it for a different mk12. I decided to keep them one I've got because sending it back would have been a hassle. Had I lived close to them I would have exchanged it.

I mounted a Bushnell First Strike to it and bore sighted it. I quickly discovered that the sight was way too low on the gun. I Bought a pic rail riser from Amazon that brought it up .83" and it's worked perfectly! The red dot in the sight is I believe 4 MOA, so it pretty big. This makes it harder to be very accurate like I'm used to with my scopes. That being said an inch to the left or right will still hit a deer in the vitals, so I'm not too concerned. I also figured this sight would make it easier to shoot skeet! I tried shooting skeet with the flip up sights and failed miserably. It's like looking through a d*** pin home, I couldn't see a thing.

Actually they're not on backwards, they are not Magpul sights. Problem is that the sights supplied are junk and are barely Airsoft quality. I removed them immediately and put on an Aimpoint PRO.

My MK-12 had some issues with running light loads when new but has loosened up a little and now seems to be able to shoot anything reliably. I completely stripped mine before shooting it and removed all the packing oil before reassembly and proper lubrication. The oil they have in it for shipping is not a quality lubricant and just seems to be there to prevent corrosion so get it all out of there.
I can't really comment on the mags as all four of my five round mags will hold five easily and both of the two round mags will hold two no problem. As Spotagwan says, start from an open bolt and see if that helps, I'm always surprised how many people insist on trying to insert a full magazine on a closed bolt and refuse to simply lock the action back first after having issues, this is common in all mag fed semi autos yet most refuse to simply work around it till the mags break in and the spring softens up a little.
Give it a little time and put as many rounds through it as you can as soon as you can so that you can figure out if it just needs more break in time or if there actually is a problem. If you wait too long to figure it out you may lose the offer to send it back for exchange. Run a couple boxes of quality slugs and buckshot through it to help break it in faster and hopefully it smooths out for you.
