I purchased a handgun May 20th got to take it home the 21st after receiving the email from RCMP, Since been waiting for the registration certificate, how long does that take typically? I understand with the current situation it might be bit backed up, I guess I did manage to buy one before all the chaos took place as they sent me my updated PAL/R card a few days after purchase …. But the R.C. Lead time? Gun is pretty much useless with out it!?

Some here will argue you are technically not legally permitted to take your new restricted firearm that is registered in your name to the range until you receive the registration certificate in the mail, which usually would have taken 2-4 weeks before the chaos that was recently unleashed. So who know how long they’ll take now.

If you got an email copy of the transfer notification when it was approved, which I always ask for, put that in your range bag and head on out and enjoy your new pistol. That’s what I do. Technically it is not the actual RC, but it shows that the gun was recently transferred to me.

If you don’t have a copy of the approval, and if you bought the gun from the store you very well may not have a copy, then you’ve got nothing unfortunately. Nothing to do but hurry up and wait for the mailman. Good luck.

I’ve been a good boy haha and I’ve just been waiting. I do have the transfer notification in email/pdf form and that was what I needed to show my local shop in order for them to release it to me, I understand that, this TN serves as the official document allowing you to take ownership and take it home. That TN also shows the registration number and the serial number of the gun, along with the new ATT update to my PAL/R card. I know nothing can be done but it’s so dumb to be printing #### and waiting for mail vs online.

you have to wait 'till CFP prints and CP delivers the certificate (in normal days up to 2 weeks after transfer Approval by CFO) ..
TN is not a replacement of RC, all CFOs sent out letters to underscore that in 2020 or 2021 ...

or you can risk and be placed into position of need to provide the certificate in 14 days time frame ... while your restricted enjoys custody at LE office ...

Located within the text at the of every TN now:

“Transfer Notifications’ purpose is to take possession of a newly acquired firearm after the transfer is completed, and does not serve as a temporary registration certificate. Subsequent movement of the firearm can only occur after receipt of the registration certificate.”

Translated:

“You’ve taken two training courses, had your mental health history screened and your conjugal partner and references interviewed, are subjected to daily criminal records checks, paid for the item, have had the item’s transfer request reviewed and approved, have been notified that it is now lawfully registered to you, but can’t leave the house with it until you get another piece of actual paper delivered to you by a chronically understaffed federal agency from possibly the most distantly removed part of the country, even though it’s 2022 and this thing called the internet has been around for a generation.”

That phrase is not on any Transfer Notification I have ever received and I just got two last week.

You're my kind of people and that is exactly what I do.

I never got this letter. Sometimes I think people like creating rules where rules don't exist.

This is false. Where did you even come up with this??

This definitely happens. Some people just don't understand that their opinion is not what matters, and they think they're doing everyone a favor by giving it.
