From The Firearm Blog:

Hatsan Arms Company announced several new shotguns at the recent IWA Outdoor Classics show in Germany. One of them is the new Escort AutoDefend shotgun.

The AutoDefend is a semi-automatic scattergun with a 14″ barrel. It is able to run both 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells and holds five of either in its tube magazine. Two additional shells can be held in a side compartment on the fixed stock.

The gun has a short Picatinny rail on the forend and a heat shield over the barrel. Barrels are chrome lined and topped with a red fiber optic sight.

A marine version of the gun is also available with a white nickel finish to help prevent corrosion. Other variants include a side-folding stock, a top folding stock and a pistol grip version (no stock at all).

I think these could be quite popular even if restricted if they are ~ $500. I always wanted a Benelli M4 shorty, but didn't want to spend 2 grand on one.

You're at least 6 months behind the curve on this. There's been threads on this as early as last fall.

Dang, I was thinking about pumps and folders.

they also make a pump gun in the same line. And a few different stock options for both, including folding stocks (both top and side available)

Only the pump without a folding stock would be NR though, folding stock or any of the semis are restricted and that kills half the fun factor...

A pump with a folder needs a 16" barrel to be NR.

The deciding factor is the overall length of the firearm in its smallest fireable form. Barrel length only matters in the respect that it would be the thing you could change to make it long enough.

C. a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise,

Barrel length only matters on a semi-auto.

This gun is cool.
But nobody will buy it in Canada or USA, because of gun laws that go against it.

Americans need a 16" barrel, and we need a 18.6" barrel.

Too bad really.

Actually, US shotguns need 18". Less than that, its Class 3 or AOW.

Semi auto's rifles need 16".

A/P NFA Act of 1934.

Canadian is 18.5", or 470mm.

So it would be restricted... so what?? No one laments Restricteds when buying handguns... a short auto shotgun would still be quite fun IMO.

How much would these go for?

Is this a clone of a better known shotgun?

I believe they are a Benelli clone, I bought a MP-A several years ago, its a fun gun, never had a single issue.it cycles every thing except low recoil/bear bangers. and sooooo fun to bump shoot!
I,d like one of these short shottys for a range toy , at around $500 a lot more affordable than a Benni

Hatsan are not a definite clone of any major brand model.
They are Italian inspired, with some design likeness to Fabarm and Benelli, but not a straight up clone parts wise, like the Norinco/870 for example.
