New Henry Single-Shot Rifles

I think North Silva may just be the best thing that ever happened to IRunGuns. :d with the growing chasm that NS is imposing between Canadian and US pricing on almost everything the import, I may never buy another NS imported gun again.

IRG does have a decent selection of Henrys on their US site as it is....

i inquired about adding the .303 British,7.62x54r[both in .311] and the .22 Hornet [with a 1-12 to 1-14 twist for 50gr bullets not 1-16]

If Henry decides to produce a .45-70 with straight walnut stock, aperture sights, brass receiver/fittings and a looong octagon barrel...a Henry-ized version of the old H&R Buffalo Classic...I'd be all over it.

Edited to add: Start tenderizing your chapeau, hoyt...this request seems like a natural extension of their singleshot line. :)

The odds of an American gunmaker releasing a production rifle in a cartridge like the 303 that has no following in the states, hasn't been chambered for 7 decades and is destined to languish on the shelves is essentially zero.

Me too... that is basically what I conveyed to Anthony... and also the same in .30/30... there are a pile of folks who are acquainted with the .30/30 cartridge and would love to spruce it up with LVR and spire points.

Regarding .311" bores... maybe in the 7.62X39, but not the others... I think "mon chappeau" is safe.

Probably not very many. I agree it's a long shot, but it would be very neat if Henry got a sprint run rolling for canada like the no.1

I wonder how many of those were sold in the U.S.?

I'm sure a Ruger collector would buy a #1 in any chambering...is there any such thing as a Henry collector? :)

Yes, I'm sure the only one that even has a chance is the Russian round...but if they introduce a budget-priced single for it, the complaining will immediately begin. i.e. "too expensive!". The SKS is still pretty cheap...as are many CGN members (myself included)...so I doubt that a new Henry could be priced low enough to sell well to the x39 crowd.

But a .45-70, done up nicely, could probably sell if marketed as a somewhat-lower-priced alternative to Uberti, Chiappa and other singleshots. Not a replica per se, but a classically-inspired design that would also be very practical as a hunting or target gun. Fingers crossed!

I'd buy a case colored Henry single in 45/70 with a long octagon barrel
Their lines are increasing. They have exceptional service and offer custom engravings. I think before long they will have a custom shop where guns can be ordered. At least that's the idea I got when talking with them about a custom gun

7.62x54r would be awesome in a single shot. I was thinking 405 win and 30/40 krag fits the henry sticht. Surprised there is no 30/30.

Wonder if these can handle ruger no 1 45/70 loads? Can't find any reviews of the gun online maybe a user error

They have been out a year or so down south and the reviews I have run across have all been- don't plan on any typical scope other than 6" eye relief. Apparently the extra high hammer with the 35lb spring, and the available 2 slot Weaver base causes the scope bell to interfere with the not included hammer spur even with a Leupold 2x7 and high rings.

Oooohhhh. 405 could be a fun one. Don't see many of them around these days...

If I were to guess, I would say probably not full house No.1 loads, but likely what the Marlins will do or better.

x54r would be fun too! Cleaning it from corrosive ammo would be so easy! lol

Well, that ^ is somewhat disturbing. They've managed to recreate all the problems displayed by the old H&R/NEF guns, without correcting any of them. Two-slot base? Brilliant!

In fairness, careful selection of optics and mounts can probably make these work, with a careful eye towards eye relief and mounting height, but that's only viable for us more mature gunnutz who have drawerfuls of old scopes, rings, etc. to tinker around with. If you actually need to buy all that crap and just hope to hit upon a combination that works...yikes...:)

Yea, that hammer does look weird, and pretty high.

I'm a bit skeptical about the lever for opening the action too. I can't help but feel like I might get hit between my thumb and finger by it due to recoil.

I posted about the Henry SS last Jan when they came out. I inquired as to chambering some other rimmed rounds like the .303 British,7.62x54R and .22 Hornet. The 30-40 Krag would be redundant as brass and loaded ammo is unavailable on a good day.I know .303 can be used. Why they didn't go hammerless with a tang or crossbolt safety escapes me? The hammer angle looks like it may bite and the gun may shoot high unless scoped by the cast of the stock.

Suther afaik the limiting factor for loads on break actions like the handi is your shoulder, not sure if this one would be different.

Winchester 1885s come in 405 but sport a tang site (potential forehead attachment), brass buttplate (ouch with modern loads) and hefty price tag.

762x54r seems unlikely from henry, easy cleaning is exactly what I had in mind. Saw a baikal on a used rack once but they were asking quite a bit of change for it.

In a world of sub 500 dollar bolt guns, is a sub 1000 dollar single shot in old rimmed cartridges too much to ask?
