Welcome to CGN.

Given your budget, I think you would be best served by looking for a used gun on the EE. Keep an eye out for a CZ-75, P-35 (Browning Hi-Power), or a Colt 1911, IMHO, these are among the best 9mms ever built. The only thing to watch for is that the mil-spec version of the Colt and the Browning often have poor difficult to see sights, so you might be farther ahead with the commercial models.

Well I was in the same boat as you awhile ago and so have all of us here on this site. I always told myself that I'd own a Beretta 92FS 9mm (Second choice was a Glock 17) and this would be the first gun I would buy. Well that's what I did but if I had my time back, I would have went up to a range and would have tried the diffrent fit anf feel of a few pistol in you hand. It turn's out the Beretta wasn't the best choice for me, I have 7 pistols and 2 revolvers now and the best one (my preference) for comfort is my CZ 75B. Although it's not a 9mm but a .40SW it still is very nice. I still got a thing for Beretta's and i'm still trying to get use to it. I got to try a Glock 17 after and I didn't like the feel of it either, but I have no issues with my Glock 22. I gess I love those .40's, I got another one on the way. :)

So that would be my advise, just get to hold a few to see how you like the feel of them. you'll here everyone saying that this gun or that gun is better, but it's all personal preference. This site was a good choice, the amount of information that goes through here is been a great help to me as a new RPAL member. Go out, try them and enjoy!

Not much in the pistol, just the ammo. I'm not even sure what it is, I bought a case through the gun club to save on $$$. I think that the.45 and .40 is about $4-$6 dollars more a box than 9mm. I bought all my pistols of the EE (Equipment Exchange) but you have to get permission to view. The EE is addictive! I can't stop looking on it for new pistols and deals. I bought alot of accessories and rifles there too.

Welcome aboard nova scotian guy. Take a moment to view the different posts concerning the EE and read up on different pistols. Buy a dictionary and keep it handy when you are starting, or replying to a post. It will help you have better feedback from your requests. This site is a great asset to anyone interested in guns. Good Luck.

Someone mentioned the High power here, I have shot these a fair bit and would just like to say I've seen alot of jamming due to old magazines with the military models, new manufacture ones are solid and reliable though.

i didnt read every body's posts but i just bought a smith and Wesson m and p 9 for 847 bucks out the door. im in Ontario to so i think are taxes are higher here
