I am getting the new HK P30-L in 9mm,..a DA/SA with many improvements over the USP.

one such improvement is the longer mag release. It travels along the bottom of the trigger guard. I have never had issues with serious issues with pressing it easily (finger comes up off the trigger and back to the bottom rear of the trigger guard, and you press down. As you can see,..it does seem about twice the length of the old USP mag release.

My question is,..will pressing this mag release cause some RO's to cringe or call an unsafe gun handling call on the shooter for placing there trigger finger along the bottom of the trigger guard? It looks very close.

gun on the left is the new HK45, one on the right is the new P30-L 9mm.

well, i always tell my BB students that have guns like this to tell the RO ahead of time so that he knows.

they should just get DQ'd for using such a stupidly designed gun in the first place. ;)

never happened with my USP in 4 years. Not even remotely close. I used a Bladetech, Fobus and Speedsec.

I shot a USP .45 for my first 2 years. I'd often get cautioned on my finger during reloads so I just got used to letting the RO's know how the gun worked.

I found the trigger guard release to be easy & fast and I'd love to try out these new HK's.

Nobody that is 'qualified' to RSO should give you greef since they should be able to tell a difference between 'finger in trigger guard' and 'dropping out a mag'

If they can't either A) find a new RSO B) Run since this dummy will hurt somebody eventually with his lack of knowledge

Moving the mag release to the right side of the gun on all my guns brought the same issues. I tell the RO where the release is and hope for the best.

Take Care

I hate mag releases on the trigger guard... I was looking at a USP and a Walther P99 and when i went to drop the magazine my finger kept catching against the trigger... so unsafe imho

Well since NROI Canada has no such postion...it should not be an issue ;)

No no i had it in the "running" position, so finger on slide, then went to drop the mag and it would catch on the trigger, then tried from finger in the trigger and went to drop, it would drop it better then. By the way this was in a gunstore just looking at the two guns, I'd never try that with a loaded:) besides i'm used to shooting with an extended mag release in open...

You slid your finger off the trigger,..big no no. Try lifting it off the trigger.
