First I've seen it, not sure if it just came out.

Looks good.

7lbs...

Wonder if there is a thread protector; seems like you can remove the flash suppressor.

I like the mount.

Just not sure how it qualifies as a "Scout" rifle, as I don't see a readily available way to mount a LER scope. I know there are a lot of prerequisite's for a scout rifle: weight, length, etc. and most rifles fall short in one area or another, but the one defining feature is the ability to use forward-mounted optics.

I'm not saying it's not a dang nice rifle, and Howa can call it whatever they like, but I just don't see a "Scout" rifle.

The lines have been blurred on what a scout rifle is/isn't for quite awhile now.. Not sure it's worth worrying about these days.

Bolt action assault rifle
Why a huge mag for a bolt gun and is not scout the scope is over action not in front ??

I went with the Howa Alpine ( google that ) , sweet little rifle.
Comes with a Bansner stock , choice of floor plate or detachable mag, 20" barrel, 7 lbs. scoped and ready to go.
The 6.5 CRM I had is a tack driver, I have yet to fire my 308.

The Alpine is awesome. I'd love to have the mini in .223, 7.62 x 39 and the Alpine in .308. All weighing in at 5.7 lbs. Nice trio. Someday.

Liking the Howa scout rifle, though I never understood the need for a massive magazine on a bolt rile, but we all have different definitions of "ideal".

To me, my 30-06 T3 Battue with a 20 inch barrel and fast-target acquisition sights is a perfect scout rifle:

Leupold VX-R 1.25-4x20 (30mm) scope
MaSi QD mount
Atlasworxs stainless bolt handle and aluminum bolt knob
Atlasworxs aluminum shroud
Lumley Arms titanium recoil lug
Tikka 5-round magazine

I used to work at a Canadian Tire in sporting goods and got to handle a few Howas. To this day the smoothest bolt I have ever felt was on a Howa. We had a combo similar to that configuration but a little cooler looking if you ask me. They came with a hogue stock, bull barrel, bipod, detachable mag conversion kit, and a decent optic. The optic, stock and barrell were all coated in matching kryptek camo (I know that isn't a very popular finish on here) The price on them was about $1100 +/- 100 depending on calibre

I like the Howa stuff a fair bit and intend to buy at least two mini's but for a "scout" type rifle I like the looks of your Battue more.

Is the Battue a long action like the T3's ? That would be about my only complaint about it.

Yes, it's long action, but in truth, the negligible amount of extra weight makes no difference to me. The shorter calibres have a bolt stop.
I have gone back to the classics in a sense, as I prefer calibres like 30-06, 7x57, 6.5x55 vs 308, 7mm-08, 260 Rem. If I do buy a T3 in 308, I'd likely install a factory 30-06 bolt stop (two minutes to replace) and use the long cartridge magazines... more options for bullet seating.

Fair enough, the long action definitely gives one more options.

Kurgan .... what reticle did you go with in your VX-R 1.25-4x20 ? I think that's a great scope choice for such a rig.

Still waiting for someone to post an actual scout rifle in this thread......

Don't get me wrong, I cheat with my Ruger in that the scope isn't fully forward and I use a three round may for hunting...... But, if there is no scope forward mount option it isn't a scout......
