I live in Welland Ontario and I have never hunted before. I just received my Pal 2 weeks ago. I'm taking the hunter's education course September 20th. I've been trying to piece together info that I'm finding here and on the internet but it's frustrating. Tonight I just realized that because I don't have my outdoors hunting card I'm missing out on deer season here in Southern Ontario. I could really use some guidence. I've had kind offers but they don't live in my area. Even if it's just for a coffee so I can pick your brains for 10 minutes, anything would be appreciated.
If your wondering why am I looking to hunt now that I'm older the answer is simple. When I was younger I just never got around to it. Too busy, didn't see it as a priority . Then about 17 years ago I injured back back and have been unable to until now. 17 years is a long time to think about things, now it is a priority. It's a skill I want to aquire and maybe pass down to my sons.
Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Hunting small game is a lot of fun and it really helps you to get past the buck fever stage we all went through wen we started hunting

In Alberta we have a program run by the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors Association called "Hunter's for Tomorrow" where new or older people are mentored to ensure they are given an enjoyable entrance into hunting...Check with wildlife officials they would know if any available in your area. All volunteer wirkers.

You shouldn't miss out on the deer season. As soon as your done the hunter course get your lics. The only thing you wont have is a doe tag so buck only for you this yr.

Hi McDo, I sent you a pm the other night did any of my info help you? As for deer season you don't have to miss it. once you pass your test you should be able to apply online for and E-licence and you can buy your buck tag online or from a sporting goods store right up until the day before you want to hunt. Download the hunting regulations you need to read them over. Do you know what a WMU is and where you'd like to hunt ? If you have any questions send me a pm and I will try to help you out. Sorry not really able to meet up unless you willing to drive a little? Lots of info in the beginning and sometimes confusing happy to help you where I can.
You may have to go it alone this season but you'll meet some others that you can join together with.

Sorry just checked regs. You can not get a e- licence you will have to get to a service Ontario outlet they have to see you Hunter training cert. then they will get you a outdoors card number And you can get you deer tag at the same time. Card will be mailed to you.

In southern ontario deer is determined by which wildlife management unit you live and plan to hunt. If you look up on the ministry web site you can find out which wmu you are in and can hunt. There are still additional tags in wmu 87 and 88. Check the maps and if you find out you may be able to buy a bow tag for buck or doe. Once you pass the course you can buy a tag for deer.
