Hi guys, I'm getting into hunting now and barely have an idea where to start. I live in winnipeg and have been hiking and alot of exploring in the outdoors my whole life. Now that I have my PAL and my fathers fire arms. I need some help!! To be honest I'm not even sure of what kind of questions to ask, except for where should I be hunting in manitoba. Other than that a crash course of info of hunting in general would be great!!

Joining a local fish and game club and the MWF would be a good start. Spend some time at the range or meetings and meet some people. Who knows you may even garner an invite from someone.

Do all the above things , Then get to know your local regs very well ... spend lots of time in that book. Then start reading about the species your going to hunt and learn as much as you can about it, how it behaves and travels. Youtube and google are great for that these days.

Rember most important thing of all is to focus on GUN SAFTEY ... Dangerous end points at the ground at all times. I dont hunt with very many people because a couple of guys were careless around me with the muzzle end of there rifle. There is no second chance with a firearms accedent !

Good luck and happy hunting !

Welcome imark. Welcome to the never ending want list of stuff you need for hunting. I also am from Winnipeg and started hunting last year. Good luck with everything. What kind of hunting are you wanting to do?

You will also need to get your hunter safety certificate, and you will have to carry it with you while hunting should a conservation officer ask you for it.

I will most likely be hunting deer. One of my friends is also interested but hasn't gone since he was a youngin. We are both still looking for advice but so far I am getting a pretty good idea. Anymore advice out there?

There are many crown lands,WMA,and community pastures within an hour drive from Wpg.East around Richer,Libau area,Community pasture by Poplar point and many acres of WMA,Crown ,and Community pastures up by Inwood,Narcisse area.
Google earth is a great tool once you find some locations on a map to look for funnels and bottle neck which deer love to use.I myself prefer hunting from an elevated blind although every now and again it is nice to stretch your legs and do some still hunting. Most of my luck has come from setting up in one spot.Enjoying the day and the critters out there and the time off work.
