I went to renew my hunting license today and was told that there is a new system being implemented.

Apparently the new license replaces the outdoors card and we will have to wear the new license on a lanyard or pinned to our clothing.

Has anyone heard of this or have any info?

This is really going to suck, last year I did the 5 year renewal on my outdoors card :puke:

No, havent heard this. I wont wear ID stapled for my head.

You sure its not because they have paper licences now? That are issued and run by a company out of Michigan which handles all the MNR stuff?

I really have no clue. The place I went to said they will have them in a week. So I will go back then and see what this is all about.

5 year? I thought they only came in 3 year?

And no I haven't heard about this.

But when I was in purchasing my Deer Tag late last fall at a Service Ontario location, the woman I was dealing with said that some changes were coming - but more along the lines of online purchasing/validation.

My came in the mail this year and it is the same as any other three year hunting and fishing renewal I have received in the last 20 years. Maybe I am exaggerating but I cannot remember what the last change to the system was. Seems this year there are a lot of rumours going around but I have not heard of any new system or received the information with the card I received this year. I had a quick look around the MNR website and have not seen any press releases or other information. If there was a change to the system the MNR would be mailing letters to current licence holders so everyone would be in the loop. I am calling urban legend, just like every January when people renew their licences.

Yeah I didnt find anything on the MNR site either. so you got the normal everyday outdoors card like usual?

I renewed mine online jan 3, printed off a temp one on my printer, just got my new card today with small game and fish on the back as usual.

They are only printing the small game and fishing licence on the cards. Everything else is a thin plastic card that will have to be given in addition to your outdoor card. You will get individual plastic (yellow) "tags" for each animal, (ex- 1 for deer, 1 moose, 1 bear, 1 wolf, 1 turkey). They will all be seperate.

You still get an outdoors card. You no longer get stickers as licenses. You are now issued licenses and seals ("tags") as one piece. Upon harvesting the animal, you seperate the license from the seal and attach the seal to the animal. The license-seal combo are a plasticy-paper type thing similar in feel to the new $100 bills. They fold up nicely to the same size as an outdoors card (but much thinner-paper thin) thus fit nicely in a wallet. Small game and fishing obviously dont have seals, so you only get the license.

Where I hunt, I have to purchase a seal for a wolf. Ive got it sitting here in front of me. Nothing is worn as a lanyard, or pinned to you. It all fits very nicely in a wallet (better then the old tags which were all oddball sizes). They also appear to be more durable, and in particular less susceptible to being smeared by blood, rain, mud etc.

Yep, the same tag as always.

I should head out and get my coyote / wolf seal, can you take a picture?

I got my fishing license yesterday, no sticker for my card anymore, she printed off this business card sized piece of plastic with my name, dob, height, eye color and card number. She swiped my outdoors card in a machine confirmed my postal code, gotta hand it to the mnr two moose tags one deer tag three small game and fishing licenses and my address is once again wrong!

...and my address is once again wrong!
Sales clerk asked all kinds of questions about my address etc. and even wanted to confirm my date of birth (though I refused that), looking at her computer screen which I couldn't see of course. When I said all that chatter should be unnecessary as it was covered by my outdoors card in her hand she responded, "it's necessary because your driver's license has expired". I said NO it had not, paid and left really ticked. Didn't know a driver's license was a prerequisite to hunt or fish.

So I got my fishing and small game and now have two additional slips of paper that MUST be accompanied by my outdoors card - five more by the time I buy all my licenses. When the outdoors cards were being introduced it was said how handy it would be needing only one card to carry with stickers. It was handy but didn't last long. Guess I got to get me a camo file box on wheels before my next hunting trip to the woods - for the ever burgeoning paper load required by officialdom.

If they dont have the long gun registry scrapped by the Fall hunt,
we will all need a "man purse" for all of our cards,
tags, licence's and firearms registration slips when we go hunting.

One more reason to stay the heck away from Ontario.
Sheesh! What a bunch of retards in gov't there.
Eagleye.

What do you use in BC?

To clarify

In ON every outdoorsman/woman has an outdoors card. The outdoors card has a swipe strip and an identifying number.

You then purchase a license to hunt an animal. Attached to the license is the seal which you separate and attach to the animal upon harvest.

its not that difficult

personaly I dont think its that bad of a system we have here in ontario.

Likewise- I'm ok with the current system.
Here's a conumdrum, in which I'd like an answer: I still don't have my fishing tag for this year. (I don't ice fish, and therefore is not an issue) I'll be getting this tag in the next week. Sometime before summer, I'll be getting my hunting papers.
What to do from there? Take in my proof of hunting training papers into the MNR (Service Ontario) and say I'd like a fishing/hunting card now?
