Upon reading many stories of manufacturing faults in some brands of newer rifles, I thought it would be of interest to some to develop a poll to compare the percentage of rifles purchased without issues vs rifles purchased with apparent issues. So let's say 40 people voted remington total, 5 had problems that would be 12.5% of remingtons purchased in the last year by people on here had issues straight from the factory

I know the poll is flawed, for instance if you have purchased more than than one gun from a certain manufacturer and voted to a certain bias, or severity of flaw, is limited to a handful of gun makers etc. but it may give an idea of just how often the average fellow who saves up the jack to buy himself a new hunting rifle is paying good money for items with manufacturing flaws and poor quality control with certain brands.

rifle must have been purchased new, by you, in the past year, to vote

My most recent purchase is a Marlin 336 in 30/30, certainly made since the rem. takeover. The rifle's action is not as smooth as Marlins were before, but hopefully will smooth out with use. It is micro-groove rifled, which is not my favorite but has already shot better then any of the Micro-grooved guns I've ever tried. The rifling type is not a Rem. problem but I think it would be smart if they went away from M-g in all calibers.

Just another thing to consider:

My Remington ran over $1200, while my Ruger was a 10/22. Quality assurance had better be in place on the high-end stuff, while a $200 rimfire might be forgiven its rough finish.

So far, for the folks who took part in the poll it looks like the amount of NEW rifles that have various issues is as follows:

Remington 20%
Marlin 42%
Ruger 25%
Savage 18%
tikka 0%

It would be nice to include more brands but that would have be a separate thread (pending interest) as polling is limited to 10 options

I have bought 3 Savages over the last year, one being used, but not a problem with any of them. I bought one Remington and it was a piece of $hit right out of the box.

I bought a Savage 11FCNS in .223 last nov because I wanted to try the accutrigger and a Savage centerfire. So far very pleased with it. Not as nice to look at or fondle as some but shoots well and hasn't #### the bed on me.

I picked up a .308 Savage DBM package deal with a scope. The rear part of the receiver was not level with the area just in front of the bolt so I couldn't mount a scope. Savage took the rifle back and I had a new one within a week.

I would definately buy another Savage.
