My Marlin 1895 purchase went to Gravel with so many issues, they replced the entire gun with another, which was also promtly returned for warranty repairs.....
There you have it....one purchase....2 pieces of crap

I'm curious to know how this poll would go with on more question:
1. Did you have a chance to inspect the firearm prior to purchase?...or...
2. Did you order on-line from a supposedly reputable retailer and hope for the best?
I never had the option to inspect, but I have learned my lesson the hard and costly way.....
just sayin'......

I cannot vote, as I have not bought any of these choices in the last year (I have a tikka M695). However, 3 friends have bought tikka T3's in the last 2 years, with nothing but praise other than the synthetic stocks. In every other aspect, they have satisfied my shooting buddies expectations by far. My 0.02

new rem m700 300 ultra and no issues. great gun and will buy another as long as a new model 70 doesn't catch my eye first.;)

XS7 series

I have both the 243 and 7-08. Both are excellent guns. Just pulled em apart and cleaned em up. Great shooters with my handloads. They have even opened the eyes of some die hard Remmy and Savage fans.

My Remington 300WSM LSSF Thumbhole (hinged floorplate) scratched up the brass really badly at first, I had to take some 400 and 600grit sandpaper and smooth out the lips of the "magazine" for lack of a better word. It feeds slick as snot now, and no scratches on the brass either.

Minor issue, but still an issue. She shoots 1"-1 1/4" @ 100yd with 180gr PP SuperX, and reloads will only improve on that, so no complaints there.

My CZ 527 Varmint in .223 needed the same treatment to the lips on its magazine as well. The trigger had some gritty creep that needed to be adjusted out as well.

Winchester and Weatherby (Model 70 and Vanguard), both great shooters. Nice triggers, good action movement, decent finish, plastic stocks are what they are but whatever. Not gonna complain in that price range.

CGN consumer reported problems with various new firearms:

remington 48%
marlin 46 %
Ruger 22%
savage 18%
tikka 10%

I'm curious what the numbers would have looked like 20,40 years ago? Seems q/c has taken quite a dive in some instances.

Perhaps its a gamble these days to get a new rem or marlin without something wrong with it, makes me think twice about mail order if desiring one of these brands....or maybe just buy a mc'tikka. lol

2 new Sako 85s and no problems. I can't say I have ever heard of a problem with the good Sako models. The A7 however can be grouped with all those other rifles that could be reforged into good horseshoes and basketball hoops.

I am a Rem700 fan. I would never part with any of my older guns, but some of the newer rifles have a pile of problems. Tread cautiously with the new production models.

I love the original Model 70 CRF and as well the most recent CRFs, but I try to pretend their whole episode with the push feed never happened. I would not hesitate to buy one of the new Model 70s. Put a few new 70s together for colleagues and all have been great shooters and function without issue.

Never owned a Browning just because I grew up with and carried Rem700s and Mausers, but I never heard of mechanical faults in any of their rifles. Just problems with their kiln dried walnut stocks splitting in the cold. Several of my hunting budz carry Brownings - no complaints.

Can Mossberg really be compared to these other rifles? Should we even be using a word such as Mossberg on this site?

I don't follow your percentages. Do you work for the government by chance?

For instance, 12 people had an issue with a new Savage and 16 had an issue with a new Remington and you have them pegged as 18% and 48% respectively????

Your math is off there, for example 35 votes of no issues with Rem, 16 had issues. 16/(35+16)=.31, times 100 for percent is 31%

my bad, my figures were indeed off, sorry about that! don't know what I was thinking earlier.....

As stated in the original post: "So let's say 40 people voted remington total, 5 had problems that would be 12.5% of remingtons purchased in the last year by people on here had issues straight from the factory"

as of the poll at 165 votes,

Rem 30%
Marlin 29%
ruger 16%
Savage 16%
Tikka 9%

I've bought 2 Rem 700 Mtn rifles. One was older stock, and was made in the early 2000's, and the other was new stock. Both had zero issues, and work perfectly. Shoot very well considering the slim barrel, too. MOA most of the time with each one.

I bought a new M70 EW, and had accuracy disappointments from it. It kept leaving an indentation mark on all the brass like there was a burr in the chamber. I got rid of that one. Also, I didn't like the fit of the stock. With the $ from that one I got another X-bolt. What a dream that one is!

Also in the past year I've purchased a Ruger 10-22. No major complaints, but it could sure use a trigger job.
