Hey guys "First Post" long time reader.

Wanted to share my excitement for my new Rifle the "Savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP" international model that comes with the Weaver 3x9x40 and the Accutrigger chambered in 30-06.

For the price tag of $550 Canadian, I gotta say i really like this gun. I was going to go with the 116 "stainless" model but I decided to save $100 bux and go with the Carbon steel. I took it out a few times and it seems to be a fairly accurate rifle, the 30-06 does kick like a mule and the first time i shot it it gave me a head ache for half a day, so i decided to do a quick mod on it and now I can shoot it without any issues.

The Accutrigger is also a nice addition to this gun, I think it will help with shooting in all the different season we have here in Canada.
only draw back I have with the gun at the moment is that it is a bit too lite. @8lbs it does kick more than say a 12lbs or so in a wooden stock might be, the Pro to this i guess is that i could carry it longer in the field..

anyways love the site hope to post more..

check out my YouTube chan if you want I did a full review of this gun.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM NEWB!

As for the savage they are a decent rifle though they seem to bring alot of discussion with difference of opinion.

Perhaps a pachymayr butt pad would help you with recoil.

I almost pulled the trigger on a 16 yesterday in 22-250. The only thing that turned me off was the plastic mag clip.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the new toy.

Yeah the 16 is nice imo, the plastic Mag should last a long time and if it goes on you in 5+ years just get another one for 50bux. no biggy imo

I have a 16 and it has a metal mag, did the one you looked at have the acu stock? There is akso the sharp shooter supply mag extensions, not sure if they would be compatible for that rifle though.

The last thing I want to be worrying about is whether my my mag is going to break when I get 900k from home. I'm sure they are torture tested otherwise they wouldn't produce them but there's always the ones that were made Friday at 4:59.

Not sure if it had accustock or not. Would rather just buy something that I want rather than have to buy 3rd party parts after the fact. That's just me though.

Didnt know that the 16s had metal mags, i wonder if that is a special model of the 16 or like a branch off like the bear hunter or something like that. did it comes with the scope, stainless barrel and accutrigger?

If you want to tame some of the recoil from the 30 06 you can always carve out the stock a bit and put some lead in there that will make the rifle heavier and inturn reduce some of the felt recoil. Check out the "Savage Shooters forum" for all things savage. They with have every mod that can be done to your gun. Congrats on the savage they truly make a great firearm. Yes I'm a Savage ###!..... there I said it! lol
