new hunting rifle

also what i forgot to ask is that, are the older models safe to use?? im weary of guns that are around 40 years old

If they have been taken care of then they should be fine even if they are over 40 years old.
But if in doubt have a good gunsmith check them out.

You won't go wrong with 308, I had a BLR in a 308 and got rid of it because occasionally when you would work the action and squeeze the trigger .....nothing would happen. It happened several times when shooting at paper and only once in a hunting situation. When I got rid of it I had found out other people had had the same problem. All with the 308. My buddy has one in 30 06 and it has worked well for years. Maybe it was a thing with the short action models??
I have a 308 in a winchester model 88 and find it to be a much better rifle (mind you it has a horrible trigger).
Just my 2 cents.

im not to familiar with the new calibres im encountering ie.. .444 or the .450 etc. but slowly learning,

i know some one with a blr in 308 and he took it to 4 gunsmiths with that loading problem and only one was able to fix it.

to add to it i really like the stainless look of the housing style
