New ICFRA Target Dimensions vs Present DCRA/US Targets

As an iron sight shooter I do sometimes frame the whole target with the front sight but much of that depends on the lighting conditions and if I can open the front iris enough. And yes we do have to find our target number every time we mount the gun, something F Class shooters doesn't have to do every shot.
The new ICFRA F Class target is not the same as the new ICFRA iron sight targets, so now F Class will have to be squadded together and TR shooters together. When everyone was using the same target face a white center would have been distracting for iron sights. Now if you could get a ICFRA F'ers to agree on what shape, size and colour aiming mark to put on the new ICFRA F Class target face, you might get somewhere. Good luck with that.

Kodiak, I don't think the whole world shot at the same target at any time. The Americans have always had their own target that they belived was best. The Brits believed they had the best targets, the Canadians followed the Brits for most part.
I remember when I started shooting TR we didn't have a V Bull on the target. And if you could shoot a 50 with IVI you were doing some damn fine shooting. Once handloads came in, possibles became more likely so the first V bull was the British size V Bull. This British V Bull only eliminated a few shoot offs so the V Bull in Canada was reduce to what we presently use, The Brit V bulls is quite generous. For a while there was an equipment race going on, but wouldn't it be boring if we were all still shooting #4 converted to 7.62. I would say at least in Target Rifle things have slowed down over the past 10 years on rifles.

For the last couple of years in BC we have been using the ICFRA V-Bull (35mm for 300 meters) that was a white patch put in the center of the DCRA targets and nobody was complaining then. What I don't understand is what is the problem now or is it that people now know what the size is?

Bill,
I thought you might be interested it what ICFRA has in the current F-Class rules. Note B1.1 - a white aiming mark is usable for domestic use only. I personally see no need for a white center. We sure have been doing OK south of your border without one. People are trying to make it too easy. If you try to hold in the middle all the time and click you have lost most of the time. Plus as someone said give the TR shooters a chance to cross fire two banks over.

ANNEX F/B

Hi Larry,

The ICFRA rules for the short range targets are defaulting to .5 MOA, however it has not been finalized. Phil Harrison of the ICFRA Rules Chairman in the UK is still waiting for DCRA to put forth their final wishes on the subject, and as it stands now, the 1/2 TR (35mm) is not official by ICFRA standards - yet.

Not sure where Bill got the notion we were using 35mm 300M targets prior to this... My ragged little target I have measures 45mm

Anyway, The ICFRA people in the UK implied "Who cares? Nobody shoots at 300M anyway" but the short range dimensions are particularly important in BC because we have only 1 range that is 600M, the rest are 600 yards, 300 yards and currently 300M

I have heard many of the older shooters complaining bitterly about the 35mm target and ALL want an aiming mark. I will push for one in BC, because I have heard nothing to the contrary.

Hello Larry

We have gone away from the white V-Bull on the standard DCRA targets for F-class to the ICFRA targets with the F-class target V-bull is half dimension of the TR target V-bull.

Hello Ian

The 35 mm I got was from a converation a couple of year’s back. When we first started using the white dot there was not a standard we used the same size for 3/400 (37.8mm I still have the punch) and 5/600(5.25inch CD labels).
Then when Chris took over we went to 1/2 TR V-Bull but I have never gone and measured the dots. As far as putting the white dot back on the target I have shot on the US F-class targets from 300 yards to 1000 and don't see a need for it.
Bill
