New in the box

New in box to me means unfired and not previously sold at a retail level. Anything else is "mint" or "as new in box". Once you buy a gun from a retailer, it becomes a used gun for the simple fact that often warranty is only good for the original purchaser. I've bought guns on the EE unseen and no pictures from guys I trust, but they're never advertised as mint or NIB.

The seller does have some ground here.
Not that a few slices of scotch tape seal integrity.
If it's factory nib, its value shouldn't really depreciate.

Opening the box will lead people to expect to pay less.
A quick snapshot is really not going to hurt its value though.

All that considered,
Someone who really wanted that rifle, described as new in box.
Would just buy it.

Think if he "unsealed" it just for you, takes time to take photos.
And you walk away cause the wood grain doesn't impress?
That might be more annoying than what you just experienced.

Up to the seller I guess, however if a rifle store wouldn't take the rifles out of the box I don't think they would stay in business very long.

Don't let a sellers good feedback Convince you to go against your gut. I dealt with a seller once who tried to blackmail me into removing my negative feedback by leaving me negative feedback, and saying he would remove it only when I changed his feedback... I noticed a few "neutral" reviews turn into positive on his feedback during the following weeks. Be careful folks. I feel a lot better dealing with members who actually participate in the forums and have an online name to uphold.

I wouldn't buy a rifle without seeing a few pics of it. I think you did the right thing. Sounds like it might have been a scam.

If there is no picture I would not deal either. I have passed up many interesting guns on CGN just beacuse there is no pictures in ad.
Things sell way better and quicker if there is lots of pictures.
For me to ask for pictures it would have to be something special I'm looking for.

I think people take the NIB thing a little too far. As long as the rifle wasn't shot or the factory grease cleaned from the bore, It's a new rifle. It was out of the box at the retailer's, and likely it had been handled a fair amount at that point, possibly even put on display for a time. There's no good reason for him not to take it out and send you some pictures.

New means it has not been fired/used or sold at the retail level after it left the factory.

Once it has been purchased at the retail level, it is no longer new... just like a vehicle you purchase.

A factory sealed box only means it has not been handled or fired... it's still a 'used' firearm but considered 'as new'.

His terms were unreasonable for most of us.

I would not even think about selling a rifle, before examining it, to see if there are any issues with it.
