Looking at buying my reloading setup

Will be doing 9mm for myself

Buddy will wanna do 9mm also as well as 45 acp

I was thinking about one of these setups and would love some thoughts for people who have them or know about them

Lee Pro 1000 9mm

Lee Deluxe 4 Hole Turret Press Kit with Auto Index

Lee Classic Turret Press

Some feedback would be much appreciated

Thanks

Darren

i have brass and dies for you if you want? I am using a lee 4 hole turret. I only shoot a couple hundred rounds a month. 9mm and soon to be .44 magnum!! I was reloading for the 9mm and .45 for the last year and think the lee does what it is meant to. Not thousands of rounds in a sitting. 200 rounds in an hour if you push it. Thats what I need but it would be nice to have a lee. $$$

I was doing more reading on the Lee Pro 1000 and it seems to be pretty good

Anymore feedback on the setup i should be looking at?

Be loading 9mm now and 40 in the future

i would say , judging from your choices, that your budget is kind of limited with the 1000 being the very top end - and the fact that you want to do 45 as well as 9mm leads me think you'd be best served by the lee 4 holer with the auto index- the shellholders snap in and out, and you change turrets for the 45, and you can do revolver with the factory crimp die down the road if you want to- if i was starting over fresh, that's what i'd get- now with the 1000, you can also do 45 as well as 9mm, but you need to either change the shellholder or the entire shell carrier- this is somewhat more complicated than on the turret , and on the 45 you need to either bend your z bar or change that as well- or buy a dedicated press for 45- that's what i did- sure the turret is slower, but to you REALLY need all that output?- i ran a uzi smg in pre- mag limit days and all i used was a 1000 in 9mm- and you get roughly 1000 rounds into one of those 4 litre ice cream pails-
the only caveat i would make is to make sure you also get an auto-prime as the priming system in the 1000 is universally hated- i've been using a 1000 since 1990 and it's all i've ever needed-and i have a dillon 550 as well-

Have you considered the Lee Loadmaster rather than the Lee 1000? Primer system is better.

You will have to refer to the Loadmaster Zone videos to set the pres sup properly (at least I did).

Anyone know if any of our sponsors sell the Dillion Reloaders?

Im not looking to mass produce ammo but a couple hundred at a time to go out and shoot

All your thoughts are appreciated

im looking at a hornady lock and load ap. any good guys?

They are good, I'm using one for about 2 years now and am very happy with it. It costs about the same as Dillon 550B and gives you a little more that Dillon 650.
Main difference is where ease of caliber changes and associated costs come.
LNL AP is a winner there.

CRAFM...

As a bonus because you are in a different province...you don;t pay the Prov sales tax.

I dont really have a budget in mind but i don't wanna spend a fortune on a setup

Just something that is priced good and works without being to fancy

If you're not con$tricted then you might want to consider at least the Dillon 550. Though I don't personally own one, there is a poll here somewhere that shows the 550 to be by far the most popular machine among volume reloaders. It ought, therefore, to hold its value very well and is not a terribly pricey unit to begin with. You'll get the well respected Dillon warranty and support to boot. Lots of guys love their Lee's but if your choice feels like a compromise to you, its probably a mistake. If you have the budget, its better to reach up than down IMHO.

just be AWARE that the 550 is MANUAL INDEXING- that's ok for rifle in my books, but stupid for pistol- it slows you down and you might double charge

I think the Dillon 550 would be the best press for the volume you want to reload. There is no benefit to automatic indexing until you step up to the added complexity and expense of a case feeder.

Here is a good FAQ on the Dillon presses:
http://www.brianenos.com/pages/dillon.html

I would stay away from Lee progressive presses, as they don't have a very good reputation. The cost of equipment is relatively small in the long run compared to components, so you might as well buy a good press instead of a cheap one.

Well...I've seen quite a few squibs from people using an auto indexer for the first time...so pick your poison.

An auto indexer is not a remedy for not paying attention...

To set up in the Lee 4 hole classic turret press $300. $80 per extra caliber.
To set up in the pro 1000 $440. $80 per extra caliber.
To set up in the Dillon XL650 $1200. $180 per extra caliber.

I have owned and used all three. If you just reload 1000 rounds a year go with the 4 hole classic. I use this one for all my rifle reloading, but I started out with an earlier version of this one, for pistol.
If you reload 2000+ rounds a year go with the dillon. You can reload 1000 rounds of 45acp in an hour with a Dillon. 1200 if your fast.(sore arm for 2 days after)
I reloaded 14000 rounds in 2009.
Hope this helps.

Not only consider the price of the equipment but also consider that if you buy a dillon and can reload 1000 rounds in an hour you will prolly shoot alot more. I shoot about 200 rounds a week of 9mm, and 100 .44 mag. Once a week I take a couple hours and reload for the next range trip. Now if I was pounding out 1000 rounds in a sitting I would prolly be shooting alot more, but It would also be costing alot more.

I bought a Lee Deluxe Turret Press with an extra turret for 220 with taxes shipped to my post office box ( Ontario )
I do 9 mm and 38/357
I'm going to also do 300 WSM on it.
