NEW ITEM: Dominion Arms Socom 18

Hey guys, for my mag, just one of them, I could rock it forward, but not pull it out, a tiny ####ty weld on the little catch at the back of the mag was the problem, so try filing the face of that little block with the 5 weld spots on the back of your magazine, see if that helps.

So, I was curious, after using this norc ammo, it leaves a lot of copper on the underside of my bolt and the bolt face. I am sure I can scrub it off with some elbow grease (Conventional cleaning methods only helped so much) but I got oooooooh about another 800 rounds to go :D so just curious if it should be a concern or not. Also, if not, then I am thinking of buying lots more of this ammo.

Thanks.

The Norinco copper washed ammo is actually pretty good stuff...buy lots while you can.
Team Norinco Plinko !!

Got mine yesterday, unpacked, striped and cleaned last night. Receiver/Bolt fit and finish are appear fine, safety is quite stiff, mags tight but I think that with use they'll be fine. Gas system is solid. Barrel seems over indexed slightly, but likely won't be a major factor.. Stock is good, no sharp edges, good fit/finish, some glue residue - but removed quite easily.

Rear sight assembly is giving me some problems, have disassembled and reassembled a couple of times... When I unpacked the rifle the elevation worked fine, but the windage knob wouldn't rotate at all... Nothing seems stripped, but the windage knob seems to tighten itself into the sight base and when I attempt to adjust left....

Pull it outward as hard as you can and try turning.

No it's not. Get some copper solvent... Hoppes or Remington clean bore is also a copper solvent. Should rub right off.

Mine just wipes clean with gun oil.

I don't see why you couldn't just leave it on as a form of corrosion prevention. Its a very thin coating that develops on my bolt's underside. I don't think it's more than a few atoms thick.

The copper on the bolt face is undesireable though.

( I have two 100 round shooting sessions in with this rifle so far)

Yeah , I used hoppes, once letting it soak, then again scrubbing with lots still left over on the face. More or less, I will just let it build up a bit more and not worry to much about it . I will be buying more of this ammo :D.

Got mine yesterday, still working on cleaning off all the oil (apparently spending time with my toddler and wife is more important). Had a co-worker lend me one of his copies of the M14 complete assembly guide, so that'll be a fun read and spend some time tinkering away. So far the flash hider was hand tight, mags require a solid smack to get out, safety is stiff, front sight far right, fit and finish seems pretty good though. Hoping to spend tonight doing all the checks and getting her ready for shooting this weekend.

Side note, anyone have a good name brand of grease that they recommend?

I used frog lube on that an my handgun for the first time. Seemed great the M14 and my pistol was smoother then ever.

Lubriplate mil spec has always been the old stand by

Picked up one of these today at a gun show in Burnaby.

got it from canada ammo. Ive been reading about all the issues people have been having with them, but it just looked too cool to pass up.
I took it apart and upon closer inspection of the rifle, I was pretty disappointed with the overall craftsmanship.
-head space looks like someone took a grinder too it.
-the mags need a great deal of force to remove.
-the front sight was falling off.
-the bolt is really stiff even after oiling.
-receiver has all kinds of strange marks and it just looks rough overall.

Plan to see how it shoots this weekend, hopefully it wont let me down.
regardless Canada Ammo is awesome and ive never been unsatisfied with any purchase from them.
it might not be the nicest gun but the price is still great, you could by 3 or 4 of them for the price of the american made m1a's as most of you know.
worst case ontario, it will just be a fun project rifle to tinker with.

How do you take a grinder to your headspace?

I am guessing, but I think he means the area of the chamber between where the bolt face would be when closed and the throat. You know, the area that is relevant when using a headspace gauge...
