My M4 arrived early.

so is it free float? semi free float? what is with the shiny pin visible in this pic? whats happening with this modified D-ring (or is it not a "D" ring)

can you remove the handguard?

Semi free float one piece. The D ring has been replaced with a threaded ring. The front of the hand guard fits into the usual bracket. As for the silver pins on each side, I believe they are to align the quad rail.

Looking at buying my first AR, and this combo deal might be too good to pass up! Anybody know if it is Milspec or commercial if I want to order a magpul stock and pistol grip?

My M4 arrived early. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics, I should have some better ones by the weekend. It looks and feels good and has a nice trigger.
Should be going to the range on Friday.
Any other requests?

Thx for the pics. Looking forward to the range report

Thanks for the pics. How is the quad rail attached, doesn't look like a normal slip ring. Would you be able to put regular handguards on? Also, are there plastic covers on the rails, it looked like there were in the picture.

It is not a normal slip ring (D Ring), The D ring has been replaced with a threaded ring. So if you want to change the hand guard, get one that comes with a barrel nut.

edit: and yes, it came with three 18 slot black ladder rail covers.

Got my NS522 rifle ! Installed the scope and voile !!!! Amazing shooting capabilities ! A little rough bolt from the beginning , but otherwise ..... A dream for this price! I would imagine can be compare to the $1000 one !
Thank you CanAm !!!!!

Just an update. The hand guard is a free float. The only part that touch's the barrel is the end cap. The muzzle break was easy to remove. The front sight/gas block needed to be tapped off with a hammer because of the finish on the barrel being applied after the front sight was installed.

If any part of the hand guard including the " end cap " touches the barrel and hand guard ahead of the barrel nut then it is not a true free float hand guard.

ewww.. that finish

if it can indeed be made as a free float handguard by removing the front cap, could it be fitted with a 300 blackout barrel and a low profile gas block installed under the hand guard?
If it can be done that easily, I might just have found my budget 300 BLK AR, instead of building one from scratch.
