New Jeep Gun

I would shoot jeeps with whatever was on hand if there was an open season

Agree with Gatehouse on the bipod, you can simply use the jeeps windows, or or sprawl across its hood for stability

I don't think I've ever seen someone in BC use a fuddtastic rifle like that for hunting or a truck gun We use bolt actions and scopes mostly. :)

That's too bad for you folks. I know there are many in Alta and BC that snub the pump guns preferring bolt actions which is another fine choice. Are your shotguns bolt action as well? :)

I doubt there are many guns better than the gun shown for a truck/ATV/Jeep gun. Adding a low powered scope is never a bad idea. I plan on doing that myself.

Tough crowd is right, but some very valid points. If you're after another stranger's input :) ;

1.no muzzle brake unless you know you'll have time to get some ear protection in-one errant shot without them near anything that will bounce sound back=you'll probably remember my words here today. Ask me how I know, and mine was only .223. Literally did damage to my hearing.

2.Scope OR sights, not both. If you like scopes (my eyes almost require them now) get the best scope/mount you can swing and get that scope closer to the receiver.

BTW-I've used cantilever mounts/rings the same way, most recently on a rimfire with a short receiver using a Vintage 6-18 scope that was pretty long. Not against the idea for sure.

If the comb is too high to get a proper cheek-weld for the iron sights, just do what you did with the scope mount, turn the rifle around 180 degrees.

Since this is for a Jeep, I take it is purely for recreation (it is rare to see a Jeep used for utility or work anymore) and not really a 'working' firearm as the name "Truck gun" would imply?
If that is the case, do whatever floats your boat.

If it is for opportunity 'work', then I'd ditch the comb, scope, mount and rail, bipod and change the break to a Surefire Warden.

So I was looking for something that I could throw into my jeep and not worry about it. Something that was less than $1000, had open sights, decent calibre, and shorter barrel; In essence a Scout Rifle.

My problem was I don't like scout scopes, so the only way to mount an optic to this Savage 110 Scout is to turn a cantilever mount backwards. Yes I could have mounted a normal rail to the receiver but that requires removing the rear sight and I wanted the sights left on a backup in case something happened to the scope.

So this is what I came up with, a Savage 110 Scout in 308 with a Bushnell 1-6 power illuminated scope on top.

I think it's awesome. Custom set ups only have to work for you. If the scope goes down, rip it off. Speaking from experience....and abuse...that Vortex mount is dam-near unbreakable with everything torqued properly. The critics on here are fan boy snobs that only know how to run with trends. And for anyone to say the muzzle break is unnecessary has no clue.

Have a look at some of the so called "silly " things that our SF's do in terms of moding their equipment... I've seen some things that would turn your head, but who's gonna argue. In the real world, things aren't "internet forum correct".

For instance, Hose clamps and duct tape were common kit used by some of the most elite operators in live theater... so in my opinion, all these "correctists " can puck off

Why is a B-R-A-K-E so necessary on a 308? Do all your rifles have a brake on them?

Some of these posters come across like dicks... like they're offended by the OP's efforts and excitement......

Only they know the "right" way.

It's OK though. We all know the type. They are usually the same people as the internet forum G-R-A-M-M-E-R police.
